Hi, I’m Tarah. I am a Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California. I earned my Master of Science in Counseling: Concentration in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling from San Francisco State University. I have a background working in community mental health, schools, and non-profits and am excited to now be able to assist a broader range of individuals working in telehealth. I am passionate about working with individuals from various walks of life and diverse cultural background. I meet clients where they are with a genuine and non-judgmental approach to help move them in the direction they wish to go in. I am passionate about working with others and honored to be a part of people's therapeutic journeys.
Our first session will be about getting to know you. It is important that we both feel we are a good fit, as the therapeutic relationship is important for the efficacy of therapy. We will also use this session to determine our goals with therapy. To assist with these goals, I like to assign “homework” in between sessions to put what we have discussed into practice in real life situations. I believe therapy is an amazing resource and can be extremely beneficial, but I do not believe it should ongoing lifelong. People come to therapy for insight, support, and tools. My hope is to help you be able to confidently implement what was learned in therapy in your daily life, knowing my door is always open for any challenge or life change you might need support with.
I consider myself an eclectic therapist. My foundation for therapy is person-centered, I want to meet you where you are, building a theraputic alliance in a nonjudgmental open space. I also use a psychodynamic and solution-focused approach in working with a client. I am very interested in learning about someone’s past as I believe this says a lot about who we are today. While we will explore the past, I do not believe in reliving or dwelling on it for too long. Instead, we will also focus on the future, making it healthier and more functional.
One of the reasons I became a therapist is because I love connecting with people from all walks of life who have so many different experiences. I am open to working with all types of clients as I don’t feel you have to have experienced the same exact experiences as someone else in order to support them in their journey through therapy. I also enjoy working with a diverse group of clients. Taking cultural differences into account and tailoring therapy with those in mind is something I truly enjoy and is important to me. I believe having empathy and the ability to connect with people is the most important strength for a therapist.
