As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in California, I received my Master's from Palo Alto University and have been practicing for 5 years. I specialize in helping individuals from adolescence through adulthood who are struggling with anxiety and depression due to life phase transitions, racial trauma, relationship challenges, or career burnout. My goal is to support my clients in becoming the best versions of themselves, providing compassionate and tailored therapy to meet their unique needs.
In our first session together, we'll begin with brief introductions to get to know each other. Following that, we'll dive into the specific challenges you're currently facing. This initial conversation will help me understand your unique situation and allow us to create a tailored plan to address your needs in follow-up sessions. This session is an important step in establishing a comfortable and collaborative therapeutic relationship.
My experience spans work with individuals in various life phases. My area of focus includes but is not limited to grief and loss, anxiety, depressive symptoms, adjusting to change and life-transitions, relationship-issues, and life challenges resulting from racial and multicultural identity.
Therapy is essential to healing from crisis-related trauma, however it does not always have to be crisis responsive. You may want to change self-defeating behaviors or develop or improve your sense of purpose. While the influence of life experience from infancy through adulthood is undeniable, I specialize in using person-centered therapy that focuses on the present with strengths-based, solutions-oriented emphasis and holistic and mindfulness practices that nurture self-awareness.
Using CBT has yielded positive outcomes for many clients including reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression, improved coping skills and enhanced quality of life. I am proficient in using CBT for assessment and goal setting, psychoeducational and empowerment and with techniques and tools such as cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation and mindfulness and relaxation. With CBT I also assign homework to reinforce skills learned in sessions and monitor progress which ensures clients stay on track toward their goals.
Implementing culturally sensitive therapy in my practice has led to more effective and meaningful therapeutic outcomes. Client's often report feeling more understood, respected and empowered. As a practitioner this is a cornerstone with any therapeutic approach, ensuring that I provide inclusive and respectful care to all clients. I integrate this into my practice with cultural awareness and knowledge, establishing a trusting and safe environment where clients feel understood and respected - this involves active listening, empathy and validating cultural experiences. Therapeutic interventions must align with client's cultural values and beliefs. This might involve: culturally relevant techniques; being mindful of language preferences and communication styles; and identifying and addressing potential cultural barriers. Client empowerment and advocacy is also crucial towards actively working to understand, respect, and integrate differences into the therapeutic process. This approach helps build trust, enhances the relevance and effectiveness of interventions, promotes client autonomy and self-efficacy, addresses systemic barriers, and contributes to social justice.
As a practitioner, grief therapy has become an essential aspect of my therapeutic approach. I integrate it into my practice by creating a safe and compassionate environment. This provides client's with a non-judgmental space where they can express their feelings and thoughts. Each person's experience with grief is unique, so it's important to conduct assessments which helps to better understand the specific nature of each client's loss, their coping mechanisms and the impact on their life. Educating clients about the grieving process also helps normalize their experiences and reduce feelings of isolation and confusion. Finally, Encouraging clients to express their emotions through techniques such as talk therapy, creative therapies (art, music, writing), mindfulness and relaxation and developing coping strategies such as self care practices also helps them learn and use skills to process grief-related emotions.
