My name is Michelle and I welcome all. Although I have been working in this field for 30 years, I have been licensed for 8 years. I have worked and lived in the Bay area and surrounding areas all my life . I am passionate about "helping" others. Not only is it my work but I also have my own lived experiences and family members who don't want to receive services because of the "judgement" of receiving help. I want to alleviate the stigma of mental health and inspire and empower individuals to seek out support if they struggling with anything that is getting in the way of reaching your dreams. I am an genuine, transparent and honest communicator. Although I have been trained any many modalities, I want to work on any obstacles so that you can move forward in life. You have made the first step, and it doesn't matter if this is your first or third time making this step. What matters is that you are here NOW. let's do this!!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I will do a brief introduction, offer the individual to introduce themselves to me. I will use the session to build rapport and hopefully gain their trust so that we can begin this collaborative journey together. I will go over the documentation process and I want to mention that It is equally important for me to let individuals know that they can share as little or as much information that is necessary for treatment purposes. I also value individuals who set their own boundaries and take responsibility on what they share. I will give them the opportunity to share their specific challenges so that we can collaborate on their treatment planning.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength is that I don't give up. I am a people person and I don't ever "meet strangers" as my grandpa would say to me. I believe people are brought into each other's lives for a purpose. I am open, honest, humorous, caring person and have a lot of experience working within different people. I am a down to earth, mother, daughter, sister, Aunt, cousin, godmother ,grandmother and a great friend to many. My family also consists of my friends and people I have met along my own journey.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I’ve used this with youth and adolescence in Oakland schools who have experienced complex trauma, individual and community violence. I use this to meet them where they are, gain trust in order to help them realize their own potential, and empower and advocate while encouraging and promoting self determination and personal responsibility.

Attachment-based

I use this method with youth, teens and even adults when trying to understand how different attachments styles with their own caregivers and how these relationships form who they are in this world and how these relationships impact their relationships with others. I use this to help individuals gain insight into these relationships. I use this method to highlight areas in their relationships where they want to see changes.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use this method with youth, teens and adults when helping them understand how their own thought's, beliefs , and feelings impact their behaviors. I use this to help reduce symptoms of not only anxiety and depression but other conditions. The goal is to support individual in developing coping strategies for cognitive distortions and improve quality of life.

Eclectic

I use an eclectic unique set of counseling techniques because every child, teen, adult is different and the need to adjust sessions to meet the needs of the individual is often necessary while on their journey to wellness.
