I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and an ex-New Yorker now based in Los Angeles. I work collaboratively with adults, exploring ways to invigorate clients who are stuck creatively, relationally, professionally, emotionally, or in some lesser-known way. It could be parenting or professional malaise, writer's block, or a stagnant relationship. It could be that a client keeps responding to a past trauma in their day-to-day interactions, or has settled on certain limitations that now feel constrictive. I work compassionately with the client to identify the dynamic that is no longer helpful, and together we explore the path to relief and a more connected and vibrant existence.
I listen first and foremost, not just to the content but to the way the client relates their story. I take in their point of view with compassion and an understanding of the context. By the end of our first meeting, I suggest how the client and I might best work together to remove barriers to the client's growth. I value the transparency of the process. The client often reports relief and enthusiasm about going forward--an enthusiasm I always share.
I have a warm, direct communication style, and am often described as intelligent, inviting, and unfailingly nonjudgmental. I lead with my curiosity and compassion.
I'm comfortable with diverse clients, including LBGTQI+ clients but grew up in a big family of all straight people, so I relate to many orientations and genders, as well as big family dynamics and dysfunction. I also am a parent so I can help with the angst and at times unbearable joy of having children. Life can get small when we are stuck. I like a client who is up for the self-exploration and self-compassion needed to remove the blocks that hinder a more fulfilling career, a better relationship or a more connected human existence.

Helping clients realize they are not what they think. Gaining psychological flexibility can offer client fresh perspective on solutions and unhelpful responses.
Guiding clients to discover, accept and manage parts of themselves that have developed fiercely protective or avoidant roles. It takes some practice to figure out how these parts can confront the client's present circumstances more helpfully and expansively in terms of connection.
Self-compassion is misunderstood to mean indulgence when actually, attacking the self can be more indulgent and certainly more harmful in terms of progress, connection, and living vibrantly.
Trauma and complex trauma can be targeted in this treatment modality. EMDR can work well with a variety of presenting issues, including trauma-fueled substance use. It works well to reprocess any unpleasant experience that still lives with us and limits our present opportunities.
