Stephen Papaleo
I have been a Licensed Clinical Psychologist since 1990. In addition to private practice, I have worked at several hospitals as an independent psychologist as well as the Clinical Director for child and adolescent inpatient units. I was the Clinical Consultant to the Director of Imperial County Behavioral Health Services for 9 years, where I supervised pre-doctoral, doctoral, and LCSW/MFC candidates and designed/conducted numerous clinically related training seminars on differential diagnosis
First session
The initial meeting typically focuses upon an in-depth exploration of what has led that person to seek therapy, along with their expectations in so far as their goals are concerned
Strengths
I engage in the age-old art of listening to better understand what leads assist in relief from suffering and utilize intervention strategies well-being, and utilize treatment interventions adapted from numerous models
Ideal clients
I don't measure people by any particular parameter other than that they are suffering and want help. Generally, my client population includes people in conflict, torn by painful decision-making, life crisis, relationship issues, divorce, breakup, marriage, work, confusion, worry, anxiety, fear, sleep disturbance, medical issues, psychosis, problems with concentration, attention, memory, judgment, mood swings, depression, anger management, loneliness, despair, hopelessness and/or feelings of helplessness and/or loss of meaning.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have utilized CBT throughout my 40 years of clinical practice. There are many components to this approach, whicunderstanding of how to change negative thoughts that can lead to destructive behaviors.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
So many of us san hardly sit still, much le be still I encourage my client to identify some of the problems they experience, identify a negative (core belief) cognitive distortion as it relates to that particular problem or conflict, and correction and reframing. and how this results in a radical change in both feeling and perspective on the issue in question. I particulatly want to identify cognitive diistortions that evoke negative and disturbing disturbing feelings, and behaviors judgments, rooted in inaccurate associations and conclusions which do not git the 'facts."
