(he/him)
Welcome to my profile page! I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in California and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington. I graduated from Northwestern University with a Masters in Counseling in 2021. I currently work at a high school counseling students and also work with adults both in person and on tele-therapy platforms. I value walking with people as they strive to address challenges that may be holding them back from growing and achieving invaluable goals in their lives.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help us create a tailored plan for us to work through in subsequent sessions. My style is collaborative and I believe in having the client, to the extent they are comfortable, set the pace of exploration and discovery in therapy. I may nudge and challenge when appropriate and I strive to do this as we partner to work together.
I have experience in a number of settings, including walking alongside seniors, adults, and adolescents in hospital settings as a chaplain, working as a therapist with children and teens at school sites, and counseling adults and couples through my private practice. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a lawyer and a nonprofit CEO. Working in these fields was often stressful and I greatly benefitted from having a therapist who helped me to better understand myself and how to navigate the challenges daily life can present. I hope that my experiences adds a helpful perspective that enhances how I work with people in therapy.
I played baseball during my youth and in my college years. I could never hit the curveball and it frustrated me to the utmost. Hitting the curveball has been a metaphor for me in experiencing with joy the challenging experiences we often encounter throughout our life journey. I welcome the opportunity to work with people who seek to explore and embrace with curiosity the sometimes perplexing mysteries of our lives.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps some people navigate difficult experiences with stress, anxiety, and depression. With ACT people can learn to move from an adversarial relationship with certain thoughts they have to a learner relationship, which can facilitate personal growth to commit to values that matter.
Existential therapy enables us to confront challenging issues facing us in life and to formulate with conviction a meaningful and purposeful direction that is available for us to pursue.
I often incorporate a number of treatment modalities when working with people, including for example, CBT, EMDR, Psychodynamic, Person Centered, Mindfulness, and Solution Focused.
