Keisha Owens received her bachelor's in psychology from Morgan State University and her master's in counseling psychology at National University. She has over 20 years of clinical experience across a variety of settings including outpatient specialty clinics, crisis intervention, Dual Diagnosed Substance Abuse outpatient programs, structured intensive outpatient programs, inpatient psychiatric, large nonprofits, and private practice. Keisha uses several therapeutic modalities and is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Crisis Intervention. She continues to seek ongoing updates to her skills and knowledge base. Keisha is invested in an approach emphasizing a more integrative, dynamic, and holistic approach to mental health. She is particularly concerned with the impact of loss and trauma and improving intervention to support trauma recovery for better emotional, physical and relationship health.
The first mental health session, often called an intake or initial assessment, is a crucial step in establishing a therapeutic relationship and understanding the client's needs, desires, and wants.
Keisha believes in working in partnership with clients/ individuals, utilizing their strengths to help them sort out challenges and achieve their goals. She also realizes how important it is to identify all aspects of an individual’s life that impact their well-being including their physical health, support systems (family, friends), work or school environment, and faith/spirituality in this process.
I use a therapeutic approach that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. It is effective for a variety of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, phobias, and stress.
