I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW/LICSW) providing individual therapy to adults (18+) across Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. My journey to becoming a therapist began with a deep desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. This passion led me to pursue a double major in Criminal Justice and Psychology, giving me insight into both human behavior and the systems that shape our experiences. From there, I earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work, building a strong foundation to guide, support, and empower those I work with. My practice is grounded in a client-centered, collaborative, and trauma-informed philosophy. I view therapy as a partnership, with your voice and perspective at the center. I draw from approaches such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), EMDR, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to meet your needs and support meaningful progress.

Hello. I'm Joseph. Do you feel so anxious it is hard to leave the house in the morning? Do you feel so depressed and sad that it is hard to get out of bed in the morning? Anxiety and depression are common. You are not alone in feeling this way. I help people who struggle to deal with the stresses of life. Working together, we can identify what causes your depression and anxiety and work to find solutions which will make life easier for you. It is all about finding balance. My experience allows me to help you deal with your stress, relationship issues, anxiety, trauma, or depression. Some people worry about what others will think if they seek out therapy. You are not alone. Many people deal with the same kind of things you deal with. Therapy is a place where many people come to heal and grow. It is a safe place where you can talk about whatever is on your mind and know that everything is confidential. Through compassion, empathy, and evidence-based techniques, we will find solutions for your problems and worries. Look forward to working with you!

I help young adults and adults (ages 18–64) healing from childhood trauma and neglect who struggle with anxiety, emotional dysregulation, perfectionism, and low self-esteem develop the tools to regulate their emotions, build self-trust, and move forward without feeling controlled by their past. I believe there is hope after trauma. When someone begins therapy with me, I want them to know that they don't have to continue feeling stuck in the effects of what happened to them. Together, we can explore and understand the trauma, look at how it may be impacting their life today, and identify ways to help them start feeling better. I want therapy to be a safe and supportive space where clients feel comfortable expressing what they are feeling and what is bothering them without fear of judgment. I know that talking about trauma can be difficult, and clients don't have to navigate that process alone. My hope is that clients can learn to understand themselves and their responses, develop tools to regulate difficult emotions, feel better about themselves, and begin to see their lives from a new perspective.

Hi, I’m Marie — a therapist who believes that change is always possible, no matter where you are in life. My goal is to help you feel better emotionally, think more clearly, and move toward a future that feels fulfilling and peaceful. In our sessions, we’ll work together to understand what’s been holding you back and find practical ways to move forward. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you notice how your thoughts affect your emotions and actions—and teach you tools to shift negative thinking. I also use a solution-focused approach, which means we’ll focus on your strengths, celebrate what’s working, and create small, realistic steps that bring real progress. I often work with adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, or major life changes—like adjusting after a loss, a new diagnosis, or changes that come with getting older. My approach is supportive and empowering. I want you to feel heard, encouraged, and equipped with the tools to handle life’s challenges with more confidence and hope. As an immigrant and a bilingual therapist speaking both English and French, I understand the importance of culture, identity, and belonging. This lived experience allows me to better connect with clients from diverse backgrounds and support them through challenges related to identity, adjustment, and navigating different cultural expectations. My background helps me approach therapy with openness, cultural sensitivity, and a deep belief in the resilience of the human spirit.

Hello there. My name is Joan I have been a social worker for over 25 years. Like you, I have had my own set of challenges and believe the key to overcoming life's obstacles is learning to plan and cope. Hi there! I’m Donnah, and I’m glad you’re here. I’m a licensed professional clinical counselor and the owner of Phoenix RISE KY LLC. I work with a diverse range of clients and have extensive experience supporting people through trauma, grief, major life transitions, anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, relationship concerns, and other challenging life experiences. Much of my work centers on trauma and the ways past experiences can continue to affect emotions, relationships, self-perception, and everyday functioning. My goal is to provide a supportive and nonjudgmental space where you can make sense of what you have experienced, develop practical tools for coping, and work toward meaningful change at a pace that feels manageable. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and individualized. I believe therapy should reflect the person in front of me rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. Together, we can identify patterns, build on your strengths, develop healthier ways of responding to stress, and work toward greater stability, connection, and confidence. I also have a special appreciation for adolescents and young adults navigating the transition into adulthood, including school or career pressures, family and relationship challenges, emotional regulation concerns, and emerging mental health needs. Through Phoenix RISE, my goal is to help people reflect on their experiences, recognize their strengths, feel supported through difficult seasons, and become more empowered in their lives.

My name is Michael Starr, and I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. I believe therapy is more than just problem-solving, it’s a place to rediscover who you are, heal what’s been hidden, and move forward with clarity and strength. I work with individuals, couples, and families facing anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, identity questions, and emotional overwhelm. My style is honest, grounded, and deeply respectful of the human experience. I use evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Trauma-Focused CBT, but I also hold space for what cannot always be explained, your story, your meaning, your growth. Clients often come to me feeling stuck, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward. Together, we uncover the patterns keeping you there and build the insight, skills, and resilience to move through them. You won’t be rushed or judged. You’ll be heard, supported, and challenged when needed. You don’t have to have all the answers. You just have to be willing to start. Healing begins with one honest conversation, and I’m here to take that step with you.

Sometimes it feels like the actual apocalypse is just around the corner. We are bombarded with terrible headline after terrible headline. Inflation is making it harder to pay the bills, let alone have fun, or reach our dreams. With so much going on in the world, it’s no wonder that there are greater rates of anxiety and depression! In the midst of it all, you might be trying to figure out who you are, what you want from life, how to have that honest conversation with your friend, setting boundaries with a parent, whether to switch jobs, learning to be more comfortable in your skin, etc. It’s a lot to manage. I can help. Welcome to GrowTherapy I'm John Warner and I'm looking forward to working with you. I'd like you to acknowledge this step that you have taken to reach out. It takes motivation, insight, and courage to seek changes in your life. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Louisville, Kentucky and I specialize in working with people who are either struggling with Substance Abuse or Mental Health issues, or who are trying to support a Loved One who is struggling with these issues, and feels overwhelmed by the circumstances. I provide a safe and supportive environment for you to explore the issues that are concerning you now. I believe that you are the expert on the things that do and don't work in your life but when life becomes overwhelming, we can sometimes lose sight of these skills and knowledge. I have found that many people often underestimate how much they know about themselves and others, and underestimate the strength that they posess to cope with and overcome the struggles that they experience. much more about themselves than they give themselves credit for, and I see part of my role as helping you unlock this knowledge and apply it in your life in ways that work best for you. While there may be times that you feel like you are not making progress, you will find that you are making more progress than you realize. We sometimes have more difficulty seeing the progress and positive qualities than we do in others. I will help guide you to see the strength and goodness that you possess and help you to see that the overall arc of our lives bends towards improvement

The one question I get most often by clients and peers is: Why did you go into the counseling profession? My response is always the same. First, I have always had a desire to help people in a time of need or distress. I have felt this way as far back as high school. Secondly, I went through a debilitating anxiety disorder in my mid-twenties. I know first-hand the helplessness and desperation mental and emotional pain causes. I never condone a therapist sharing with a client, they know how the client feels unless they themselves have experienced a similar type of pain. Lastly, I believe in the power of counseling and the benefits it can offer. Counseling is very different from medicine. Counseling requires the client to be actively involved in the process of healing and growth rather than taking medication and waiting for it to work. Counseling empowers a client to by allowing them to see their progress towards the life they desire on a daily, weekly, and even monthly basis.

Hello, my name is Ginger Van Meter. I look at each individual as an iceberg! There's a tiny piece of ice you can see on the surface but down below and much deeper is a giant piece of ice that no one can see. That giant piece of ice represents all the stressors, emotional and mental health concerns that go back many years. Sometimes childhood trauma or even current events can create problems that we just can't seem to solve. I will help you to break that ice down and learn new skills to get relief from the symptoms that stand in the way of making life more manageable. Welcome. I’m a combat veteran and retired Army officer, Christian, husband, father, grandfather, and experienced clinical psychologist. I want to get into the root causes of your struggles or battle and find ways to overcome, change, forgive, accept, and move upward toward the light. It may not seem like it, but the darkness will eventually lift, and the light will surely shine again. Life is a battle in the heart, and I humbly accept that I will be in my own battle or someone else’s battle for the rest of my life. Like the weather, our emotions are powerful. Many days the sun shines, but the rains do come and sometimes a destructive storm hits hard (divorce, the loss of a loved one, cancer, suicidal thoughts, et cetera). It's a battlefield. When it comes to the challenge of relationships, so often, it is ego (wounded pride), self-esteem, and powerful emotions at the root of our conflicts. To understand these forces is the key to peace. Let's work through it! I have been honored to be in the field of psychology for 22 years since 2004. Through the years, more than half of my time was in the Army where I primarily worked with soldiers enduring anxiety, depression, trauma, Traumatic Brain Injury, and all the other usual suspects of psychological distress. It was a time well for the analysis of guilt, fear, worry, shame, pain, heartbreak, addiction, identity conflicts, and sorrow. I’ve also worked in the prisons for many years with some extreme situations (i.e., murder, severe mental illness, rape, child molestation, drug kingpins, gang leaders). So, no matter what your circumstances are, never quit and never give up! Survival is a noble plight!

Welcome - I am glad you are here! I am accepting new Ohio and Kentucky clients via telehealth in February. Life is a complex mix of beauty and messiness, and I believe that while time passes, true healing requires intention. Our experiences—from our earliest memories to the present—shape how we move through the world. I am here to help you gently navigate those layers, understanding how your past influences your present so you can intentionally reshape your future. My Approach I provide a safe, affirming, and non-judgmental space where you are always the expert on your own life. My practice blends: Trauma-Informed & Strengths-Based Care: Honoring your history while focusing on your inherent resilience. Practical Tools: Providing actionable skills you can use outside of our sessions to support your daily well-being. Collaborative Growth: Whether you are navigating grief, trauma, or a major life transition, we will work together to build a path that reflects your unique needs. The Goal Together, we will work toward a future where you can hold compassion for your past, purpose in your present, and genuine hope for your future. You don’t have to find your footing alone.

Do you ever feel stuck? Do the negative beliefs you have ever hold you back—make you feel like you can’t move forward? Not sure what to do next? Sometimes life can throw you a curveball and when it does, I’m here to help. My name is Carol Poston. I’ve been a Marriage and Family Therapist for over 11 years. I am an experienced EMDR therapist and have witnessed the power of that modality to transform the life of my clients. I have extensive experience with grief and loss with 8 years of experience as a hospice bereavement counselor and chaplain. I understand the importance of religious beliefs on personal development and growth. My therapeutic style is shaped by my hospice experience. Every moment is critical. It’s not simply the case of making the most of each moment. It is indeed that this moment, this day, this session, is the most important. Being present and bearing witness to my client’s pain in this moment is what matters. In our sessions we manage the urgent but focus on what is most important. You are the expert in your own life--I am the professional guide here to help navigate your way through this difficult time. I am excited that you are considering me to be your guide to help you chart a new course for your life.
