I specialize in certain mental health diagnoses including personality disorders, postpartum issues, depression/anxiety, self harm/suicidal ideation. I’m Steven Frank. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), licensed in California and living in Seattle, Washington. The way the law works is that if I have a California license, I can live outside of California, but can only work with California residents. For that reason, all my work is performed online through telehealth. I see adults and senior adults in my practice and my work is with individuals. I’ve been licensed since 1983 but actually began to “grow” a private practice beginning in 1990. While most of my experience has been with clients dealing with depression and anxiety, over the last 4-5 years I’ve been more focused on the treatment for symptoms of trauma and abuse. I’ve been trained in EMDR (a specific treatment for trauma), and will use that method as needed, when appropriate, and with your understanding of the process, and consent. By the way, my first job experience (before beginning my schooling for the MFT license), was in the California State Hospital system as a psychiatric technician. I was a member of a hospital inpatient treatment team that treated people with severe mental disorders. This was excellent training for working with clients who are seeking help, but on an outpatient basis.

I believe that therapy can heal, but I also know that telling a stranger about your deepest pain can be a strange feeling. Perhaps you've been feeling sad, depressed or worried, and hopeless that anything in your life can change. Or maybe you aren't sure what you would even want help with. You know you feel bad, but if someone were to ask you "How can I help?", you aren't sure what you would say. These problems can feel permanent and unsolvable. After all, something feels broken and unfixable, so how could you not feel that it takes all the energy you have just to get up in the morning and go about your day? Depression or anxiety can also feel isolating, as if nobody else could possibly understand. You may have even received advice from people who you feel mean well but can't understand what you're going through. Depression and anxiety are not permanent or unfixable, and therapy can help. Imagine feeling peace of mind, and excited about life and its possibilities. It starts by learning about you and going at your pace. As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with over 16 years experience working with adults and teens, I've seen therapy work, and I feel lucky that I get to be part of that journey for others.

Life has shown up, and you might feel depressed, anxious, lonely, or angry. You could be struggling in your relationships. Are you using drugs or alcohol to cope with life? Do you have unresolved grief, trauma, or shame? Do you allow your emotions to control you? If you can relate to these questions, you’ve found the right place. You’ve taken the first step towards self-healing and transformation. For nine years, I have treated clients with depression, anxiety, relational issues, anger issues, addictions, PTSD, and other mental health diagnoses to make lasting positive changes. Having worked through many of life’s problems and experiences myself, I can empathize and relate to most issues and connect with almost anyone. Working together, we will assess your current situation, process your past, and establish objectives to accomplish your goals. Most issues we struggle with start with the relationship we have with ourselves. When we change ourselves, we solve our issues. My clients report they have experienced a revitalized relationship with themselves to resolve their current issues and to better navigate feelings, relationships & life’s challenges. In therapy, I provide a safe, caring, and nonjudgmental environment and use evidence-based therapies to help you meet your goals.

Over human history, people have mostly lived in close-knit communities. This has eroded with the advances in transportation and technology. Most people have lost much of the social support our forebearers enjoyed. Mental Health Professionals have taken on this role in their respective communities and are an excellent resource for you to realize your strengths and improve your well-being. When your car breaks down you take it to a mechanic. When your tooth hurts you see a dentist. When your mental health can use a “tune-up,” see a Mental Health Professional!

Hi. I am a licensed professional clinical counselor in California. I have extensive training and clinical experience in trauma therapies. My perspective is that childhood trauma has a lifelong impact on the ability of people to like, accept, and have compassion for themselves; to feel, express, and regulate their emotions; to be vulnerable, honest, and communicative in relationships; to take risks at work and in relationships; and to find meaning, satisfaction, and joy in life. My psychotherapy practice exists to help individual adults (18 years +) who are struggling with the consequences of childhood trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, prolonged grief, and existential issues such as identity, authenticity, aging, death, and meaning/purpose in life. I am comfortable working with males, females, young adults, middle aged adults, and older adults.
