New to Grow
Hi, my name if Kim Gunderson, and I have worked as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for 23 years. I have worked with middle school kids in a school setting, supervised incoming trainees at Cal State, University Fullerton, and have concurrently worked in private practice with a variety of individuals, couples, and families. You are the expert of you! I work collaboratively and aid in helping you identify underlying themes that may be adding to your distress.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Our first session will focus on understanding what prompted you to reach out, and your current coping mechanisms.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I was raised in an interactive family, who focused on helping others with kindness as an essential role in communication. I grew up singing and dancing, which helped me with connection and energy related to myself and others.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I specialize in working with people going through transitions. This can relate to any type of change that we feel challenged by i.e… loss of a relationship or a loved one, loss of a job, empty nesting, and even fear of the future.
Psychodynamic
This therapeutic approach focuses on how your thoughts affect your interpersonal relationships.
Eclectic
I draw from the many different theories I have studied over the years.
Existential
This is a broader understanding of your being in the world - dealing with anxiety, understanding of death, and freedom to make choices.
Couples Counseling
I really enjoy working with couples. The interactive nuances and verbal communications are fun to help bring awareness and alternative options of behaviors.
