Are you down on yourself, beating yourself up with thoughts like "I'm not good enough, I'm a failure, I should work harder than I do or I'll never get what I want out of life?" Do you focus on your flaws rather than your strengths and maybe have even forgotten what your strengths are? I can help you identify, challenge and change those distorted, negative, self defeating ideas to give you a more realistic, compassionate and affirming sense of yourself. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I can help you focus on your strengths, many of which you may not have even been aware of, build your self esteem and begin to love yourself again. Having been a psychotherapist for 27 years, I start where you are, help you figure out what you want in your life and give the you the tools to get there so that you can have the joy and excitement you deserve. I look forward to assisting you on your journey.
You can expect that I will listen compassionately and non judgmentally and really understand the struggles you are addressing. I will help you identify the blocks that have been holding you back and find the emotional freedom you have been yearning for. Many of my patients have been able to break through self defeating self concepts and behaviors that have held them back for decades. We will work together to give you a better sense of self and a clear course of action to get where you want to go.
I use Cognitive Behavioral, Gestalt and Psychodynamic Therapies. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you identify, challenge and change negative beliefs you have about yourself so that you can see yourself more lovingly and compassionately. Gestalt Therapy focuses on the various parts of yourself that may be in conflict with each other and getting in your way. Through empty chair and role play exercises, you will gain awareness of these different parts of yourself and bring healing to them. Both of CBT and Gestalt Therapy are rooted in the psychodynamics of how we we were raised and how relate to ourselves and others.
I am very adept at recognizing and drawing out your strengths, many of which you may not have even been aware of or previously seen as strengths. This includes reframing events or aspects of yourself you may have been perceiving as weakness or deficits. You will feel that I am your ally and on your side through whatever it is that you may going through and that you can count on my support.
Adults with depression, anxiety, relationship or work issues. I also enjoy working with ADHD, bipolar disorder, couple and family problems, as well as young adult issues.
