Hello. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in California. I am a graduate of California Baptist University and I have 25 years experience and licensed 18 years. I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. However for approximately the past seven (8) years I am working with adults only; ages 18-65. I assist them with acknowledging challenges they are facing and learning new ways of coping.
During our first session we will start with brief introductions before I begin to gather the information necessary to get to know you better and create a file for you. This information will consist of: your reason for seeking therapy, background information that would be helpful for me to understand the challenges you are facing, your personal goals you would like to achieve while in therapy, and any treatment you may have had in the past.
Over the years I have acquired a lot of knowledge and experience to go along with my natural talents and abilities to make me a kind, compassionate individual who gets joy from helping people face challenges, learn valuable techniques, accomplish goals, and become better versions of themselves than they were prior to therapy. I received my Master's Degree in June, 2000. Since that time I worked as an intern for 7 years providing services to individuals, groups, couples, & families; (children and adults) prior to and after getting licensed in 2007. For the past 8 years I have been seeing adults 18-65 and couples only. Since graduation I have accumulated numerous hours of additional training in theories, techniques, ethics, and other subjects that would be beneficial to me as a therapist.
I love helping adults who are looking for ways to improve their everyday functioning by managing their emotions by implementing techniques designed to help them achieve their goals. These clients are searching for new approaches to old and new problems and they demonstrate this by reaching out to a therapist with special gifts, talents, abilities, and training to help them write a new ending to their stories.

I use my education (DMin/MS and experience (LMFT) to provide spiritual and emotional support to clients whose faith is a central part of their identity and who prefer a provider who understands their religious beliefs. In this way I integrate theological wisdom with psychological concepts for a holistic approach to providing care.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
SFBT is evidence-based, short-term treatment that I use to help clients focus on how they would like their lives to be instead of focusing on what they see as the problem.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Internal Family Systems model views the mind as composed of multiple parts or subpersonalities. It is designed to help individuals understand and relate to their parts; protectors that have differeent roles, emotions, and intentions. IFS helps to unburden and heal traumatic experiences held by one of the parts; namely the exiled parts, reducing internal conflict, and increasing self-esteem.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT is evidence-based and involves educating clients regarding dysfunctional belief systems. I use this method in many ways to help clients understand, and alter thought patterns that can affect their emotions and behaviors.

This was my initial session with Jean. I appreciate how she is genuine and direct in her approach and I am excited for the change in me to come and how she will challenge me.

I was challenged today by Jean to see a situation from another angle. It was a good situation with a good outcome. However I may have missed the other person's message and input (possible a request) because I was focused on the goal rather than the people involved.. Even with a good situation that is something that can be learned.

Jean is so warm and empowering. She gave me so much hope and some reasonable steps to help me. I'm beyond excited to be on this journey with her.
