My name is Debbie Serrano and I am a psychotherapist (LCSW) with 10 years of experience in the field. My experience derives from different settings; Children's Hospital, Emergency Department, non-profit outpatient therapy, and in the school based therapy. I have experience working with patients suffering from depression and anxiety. I am experienced in crisis intervention, as well as holding space for grief deriving from acute medical diagnosis.
In our first session we will review your mental health hx, any child developmental traumas and discuss what your therapy goals might be. Explore immediate goals you’d like to accomplish during therapy to see if working together will be a good fit.
I am a firm believer of implementing self-regulation techniques / coping skills that work for each individual. I believe in affirmations, the power of breath, meditation. I believe in the importance of moving our bodies (yoga, hiking, exercise) to help with our healing journey. It is a good way to redirect negative energy and thoughts into something positive.
I love working with young professionals and adults that are motivated to improve their lives and are wanting to be their best selves. My clients may feel anxious and/or hopelessness, keeping them stuck in a pattern. My clients may be feeling stuck in relationships that no longer serve them, feeling overwhelmed in a career where burnout is high or difficulty overcoming attachment habits and/or codependency.
In a safe space, I help clients resolve ambivalence and build motivation for lasting change. We will explore strengths and past successes to overcome current challenges. Without judgement, we will explore differences between current behaviors and your goals. Empowering you to make decisions aligned with your values and aspirations.
With this therapeutic approach we will focus on your inner strength and skills that can guide you to overcome current or future struggles. Highlighting, those positive qualities and strengths you already posses, to help build confidence in yourself and your abilities. Encouraging reflection of past resilience and past personal achievements to problem solve and achieve current goals.
