Katherine Jorgenson

LMFT (she/her)9 years of experience

I work with adults and specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, LGBTQ+ issues, and addiction. My approach draws from different modalities based on my clients' needs, creating a personalized path toward healing and growth. My communication style is personable, understanding, calm, and compassionate. I want you to feel safe sharing openly with me. I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment and build a positive therapeutic relationship where you feel heard and supported.

First session

Our first session will be dedicated to talking about how you have been feeling lately, any challenges you have been facing, and what your goals for therapy are. The first session is about listening and building an initial connection to help us develop the best plan of action tailored to your individual needs.

Strengths

I began my personal journey in therapy over 20 years ago and regularly practice many of the things I teach my clients. I pull from various theoretical orientations based on individual client needs and wants, while maintaining a focus on collaboration in support of empowering my clients and helping them define and achieve their goals. I find fulfillment in helping people work through difficult times and enjoy watching them create healthier and more fulfilling lives and versions of themselves.

Ideal clients

I work with adults dealing with challenges that prevent them from living a healthy and fulfilling life due to difficult pasts and/or current stressors. I help clients strengthen their sense of self while healing old wounds and developing skills to create a life worth living.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I’ve been using CBT in my practice to help clients manage difficult thoughts and behaviors, and we'll use CBT skills to recognize how they interact with each other. We’ll then use that knowledge to change your thinking patterns, which will help you lead a healthier and more fulfilling life.

Interpersonal

I use an Interpersonal approach to help clients focus on improving relationships and social functioning and to relieve mental health symptoms by connecting current relationship problems to mood issues. I use it to help clients process unresolved grief, interpersonal conflict, transitions in relationship roles, and difficulty forming relationships.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

A Person-centered approach allows me to provide a supportive, non-judgmental space for clients to explore their feelings, fostering self-awareness and personal growth through empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence (genuineness), empowering the client as the expert in their own life to find their solutions

EMDR

I've utilized EMDR with clients who are struggling to process trauma and manage experiences with symptoms of depression and anxiety. This approach has assisted clients with changing negative beliefs about self in order to create a more positive sense of well-being.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I used elements of DBT in order to assist client with distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and radical acceptance, while incorporating mindfulness techniques in order to decrease severity of symptoms. I also teach client DBT skills to help them learn how to emotionally regulate and respond more appropriately to triggers and stressors.
