Dr. Porter has over 15 years of experience working with delinquent and foster youth in California. Dr. Porter has experience in treating clients with substance use disorder. Dr. Porter earned his master’s degree in Social Work at San Francisco State University, specializing in mental health, and his Ph.D.
Having worked with trauma victims for 15 years and substance users for over five years, I assure them that we can develop a treatment plan and work towards treatment goals that would contribute to holistic well-being.

First session
During the first session, I introduce myself, discuss informed consent, confidentiality, and HIPAA regulations. I would also like to complete a biopsychosocial assessment with them and discuss the reasons for psychotherapy treatment.

Trauma-Informed Care
I have used trauma-informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, and Mindfulness Practice in my practice for the last 15 years. I continue to update my practice skills with the latest research in these theoretical orientations by taking ongoing training and reading up-to-date psychotherapy magazines and journals.
