Greetings, I'm African American, California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy (144529). I possess a Master’s degree in Clinical Counsel from Point Loma Nazarene University and a Master’s degree in Public Health with a Specialization in Health Care Administration from National University. Additionally, I'm a disabled Veteran with seven years of active-duty service in the United States Navy. I've been performing therapy over the last 5 years as an Associated Registered Marriage and Family Therapist and an Associate Registered Professional Clinical Counsel prior to obtaining my full licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I treat individuals from diverse backgrounds, with mild to moderate Mood Disorders such as depression, anxiety, and professional and personal stressors.
In our first session, we'll review and discuss the consent forms, presenting problem, safety concerns, and limitations to confidential to ensure the individual is at the right level of care to meet the individual therapeutic needs. We'll discuss the individual's motivation for therapy and expectations for therapy. Additionally, we'll discuss therapeutic modalities, strengths, psychoeducation, and I will perform some assessments.
I have gained significant experience working at multiple county organization throughout San Diego and I have built my skills and knowledge in Trauma Informed Care, Child Abuse, Suicide Preventions, Crisis Management, Relapse Prevention and Harm Reduction, Mood Disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Psychosis over the last 5 years
I enjoy working with college students, young professionals, and older adults from diverse backgrounds and mixed SES. These clients struggle with life transitions, anxiety, depression and, professional and personal development concerns. I'm passionate about working with individuals who are highly motivation to change, but the client struggles with how and what to change to promote growth within the client's life. The client wants to move out of a survival mindset into a thriving mindset.
I've used CBT throughout my career as a Therapy. I utilize CBT to help clients' identify negative core beliefs and cognitive distortions that impair daily functioning.
I utilized ACT to process and identify the clients' value system and behaviors that bring the client closer or ways for that value system. Additional I use ACT to help build distress tolerance and increase radical acceptance skills.
I used Motivation Interviewing to help clients identify their personal Stage of Change I work with clt to process the clients' Stages of change and create effective goals for therapy.
