I am very passionate about serving the BIPOC and Muslim communities. Especially given my cultural background as the daughter of Lebanese immigrants, I am interested in making mental health services more accessible and catered towards diverse cultural backgrounds. If you are someone who fits this description and are looking for a therapist that is going to be understanding of your cultural world, don't hesitate in booking an appointment!
The first session is really getting to know one another and seeing if we'll be a good fit. Typically I give you space to share what's on your mind, I ask you questions about you and your history, and then we set goals together!
I keep a very curious stance with clients, not making assumptions or judgements about their experiences. I'm also a very supportive and encouraging clinician. Clients tend to feel at ease to share whatever is on their minds and we work together to sort things out. I like to keep a collaborative environment in sessions.
Narrative therapy is a form of psychotherapy that centers on the idea that individuals construct meaning in their lives through stories. These stories shape their identity and influence how they see themselves and their problems. Using narrative therapy, I help clients explore and reframe these narratives, separating the person from the problem. By externalizing issues and considering alternative stories, clients can find new perspectives, empowering them to rewrite their life stories in a more positive and constructive way. This approach emphasizes your strengths and the importance of your own voice in the therapeutic process.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns and behaviors. It helps individuals reframe their thinking, leading to healthier emotional responses and actions. CBT is effective for a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and stress, by teaching practical skills to manage and overcome challenges.
Faith-based therapy integrates spiritual beliefs and practices with traditional therapeutic approaches. It focuses on using your faith or religious values as a source of strength and healing in the counseling process. This approach can include prayer, scripture, or spiritual guidance to address emotional and psychological issues, offering support that aligns with your religious or spiritual framework.
Culturally sensitive therapy is an approach that acknowledges and respects the diverse backgrounds, identities, and cultural contexts of clients. As a therapist, I stay aware of my own cultural biases and strive to be curious and understand and incorporate your cultural values, beliefs, and experiences into the therapeutic process. This approach ensures that therapy is relevant and effective by tailoring interventions to your unique cultural needs and perspectives.
Strength-based therapy is a therapeutic approach that focuses on identifying and leveraging your inherent strengths and resources to overcome challenges and achieve goals. Instead of concentrating on problems or deficits, this approach emphasizes resilience, abilities, and positive attributes, empowering you to build on what you do well. By recognizing and nurturing these strengths, you can develop greater confidence and a more optimistic outlook on your capacity to navigate life's difficulties.
