Do you feel that life is more difficult than it should be? Are you feeling overburdened by worry or pulled down by hopelessness? These feelings are common and symptoms of anxiety and depression do a good job of making us feel pessimistic about getting past such struggles. If you're willing to be honest and have an idea of how you'd like your life to be different, therapy can help you overcome many personal challenges. It is normal to have many questions (Where do I start? What do I say?) and to feel overwhelmed by the thought of starting therapy. By far the best predictor of success is how comfortable a person feels when talking with their therapist. While there is no way to guarantee a person and a therapist are a good fit, it is best to keep this in mind throughout treatment.
In our first session, we will discuss why you are coming to therapy as well as review some of your history. The most important part of a first session is to determine if we might be a good fit to continue therapy. We both need to like it would be beneficial for you for us to work together. Otherwise, it's best to help you find a person who might be a better fit for you. The best predictor of success in therapy is if a person feels comfortable talking with their therapist.
I use an integrative approach to therapy, meaning I use different styles of therapy in my practice. I use a variety of modalities and often combine classic insight-oriented therapy with a more modern approach of recognizing and changing unhealthy patterns of thinking and behaving. I also practice EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to address past trauma.
I strive to bring patience, creativity, and when appropriate, a sense of humor into my work. One of my strengths is helping others find ways in which they are strong, intelligent, and resourceful even if they believe the opposite.
I often work with individuals working on issues with depression, anxiety, and sexual issues.
