Hi there, and welcome! I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based just outside of Portland, Oregon, and I’m licensed to work with clients in Oregon, Washington, and California. I have been practicing for over 18 years and also work full time as a manager in a large healthcare organization, where I support teams and programs focused on helping people grow and thrive. As a therapist, I love helping people get clear on what matters most to them- what they want life to look and feel like, and then walking alongside them as they take steps toward those goals. My style is warm, down-to-earth, and collaborative. I believe therapy works best when it feels like a partnership, where we’re exploring together what helps you feel more grounded, capable, and connected. A quick note: My practice focuses on working with individuals. If you’re looking for therapy for you and your partner together, I encourage finding a therapist who specializes in couples work to ensure you get the most out of that experience.

I began my career in social work after having two sons with Autism and witnessing firsthand the challenges and injustices families can face. This inspired me to help others feel supported and to ensure they have someone in their corner rooting for them. I became a mental health provider because I am passionate about helping people regain their lives, find hope for better days, and overcome difficult situations and traumatic events. Life can have ups and downs, and it’s okay to ask for help and say, “this is hard.” I am an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist and an EMDRIA Approved Consultant-in-Training. I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s Degree in Social Work and have been practicing in social work since 2007. My experience spans medical social work, counseling, and mental health, and I primarily work with adults navigating life transitions, difficult stressors (work, family, or medical), chronic health conditions, and pain. I believe that wellness is holistic — we do not get sick one way or get well one way. I am committed to supporting you in your mental health journey while also helping you access the medical care you may need to achieve overall well-being.

I have over 10 years of experience as a mental health therapist. I primarily work with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, ADHD, and family or relationship difficulties. Many clients seek treatment because they feel overwhelmed, stuck in unhelpful patterns, or unsure how to manage the challenges they’re facing. My approach is structured and evidence‑based. I focus on helping you understand the factors contributing to your symptoms and developing clear, practical strategies for change. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and mindfulness‑based interventions to support emotional regulation, improve coping skills, and build healthier behavioral patterns. Accountability is an important part of the work we do together. I will support you, but I will also provide direct feedback and encourage consistent follow‑through on the changes you identify as important. Progress requires active participation, and I work best with clients who are ready to take responsibility for implementing new skills and strategies between sessions. My Style is: Straightforward – Honest and clear, but always respectful. Practical – Tools that work in everyday life, not just theory. Explorative – Space to reflect deeply in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Encouraging – Support that helps you feel capable, validated, and motivated to change. Accountability-focused – Growth comes from owning your choices and committing to real change. This works well if you are willing to: • Look at your own patterns and find areas for growth and change • Practice new skills between our sessions and create a plan for change • Stay open to feedback, exploration, and trying approaches that fit your unique needs

Hi, I’m Candace — a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master’s in Community Counseling from Lakeland University and a Bachelor’s in Sociology from UW-Stevens Point. I’m a straightforward, no-fluff therapist who believes the best work happens when you feel safe enough to be fully yourself. My clients often tell me I’m not a “typical” therapist — and they’re right. I’m progressive, direct, sometimes sarcastic, and always focused on creating a space where you don’t have to pretend. I work well with people who want honesty, humor, and real conversations — whether you’re dealing with anxiety, relationship issues, burnout, identity exploration, or just feeling stuck. I’m an animal lover (my dogs are basically coworkers), I have tattoos, and I’m not easily rattled. You won’t shock me, and you don’t have to filter yourself here. If you’re looking for a therapist who keeps it real, creates a safe space, and isn’t afraid to challenge you when needed — with compassion and maybe a little dry humor — I might be a good fit.

I have a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Ohio University, a masters degree in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health counseling from UNC-Chapel Hill, and a bachelors of science degree in psychology from North Carolina State University. I chose to get a PhD in counseling because of my desire to help others, and my continuous drive to learn and grow. Therapy was essential to me as a teenager, then as a young adult, and now as a middle-aged adult. I have always found it to be a powerful tool in allowing me to process my thoughts and feelings, both about my past and my future. As a result, I chose to become a therapist, to provide the same support and guidance to the people I work with!

Hello! For almost two decades, I have been counseling clients, and I find it a great honor to walk alongside people, partnering with them in the hard. I grew up with a schizophrenic father. I felt intense fear, shame, and loneliness throughout my formative years. I did a phenomenal job at numbing pain and people pleasing, while my pain festered. Learning how to see and feel my pain has been transformative. I am grateful for the story I have and believe the restored is always better than the original.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Washington rather than a city like Seattle?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in Washington. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Washington from Spokane to Tacoma! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Washington.

Will my therapist take Aetna - Medicare?

Yes! If you use Aetna - Medicare you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have Aetna - Medicare you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
