About me

Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Maryland (LCPC). I have over 20 years in the mental health field/substance abuse field. I have worked in various settings and have a wealth of knowledge in both areas. I help youth, adolescents, young adults, and adults with unlocking their true best selves! I will embark upon your journey with you, as your guide to optimal mental wellness.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, we will work on our introductions and do some rapport building. We will discuss the challenges you are currently facing that are bringing you to therapy. Lastly, we will begin to structure a treatment plan that will serve as a blueprint for our future sessions.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Having worked in the field for over 20 years, there is not much I have not encountered. This has allowed me to be able to build rapport quickly and to ascertain the root cause of the individual's challenges. I utilize humor (appropriately) and my relatability to assist me in making my client's feel comfortable in this process. Counseling is truly my life's work, so I take it very seriously! I want to help my clients in any way I can, so I do go the extra mile!

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love working with youth, adolescents, young adults, and adults who are trying to figure things out in their lives. They may have ADHD, school issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, bipolar disorder, life transitions, etc. They often may not know how to manage their emotions effectively, lack coping skills, anger management concerns, trauma responses, anxiety, and a sense of being overwhelmed with life's stressors.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to help clients learn how to reframe and cognitively restructure their thoughts. We do this to begin to look at negative thought patterns and how they influence our behavior. I also use guided discovery to help me look at the client's viewpoint.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I have used this approach for many years. It allows me to act as a sounding board for my client and to walk alongside them on their journey. The client is the expert on their difficulties, and I provide a non-judgmental space, in which for them to grow.

Motivational Interviewing

I have used this approach for the majority of the years that I have done substance abuse counseling. I work on expressing empathy while in sessions, help clients develop discrepancy, and work on rolling with resistance. I use open-ended questions to work on learning more about the client. I do affirmations, reflective listening, and summary reflections to help facilitate in this process.

In addition do being direct and humorous, Latesha is also solution oriented. She won't allow me to gloss over anything and we actually discuss issues. Really digging down to the heart of the problem that may have been hidden for years.

Very personable and always makes me feel comfortable, which has been difficult for me with past therapists.

Latecia has been a real benefit for me! She is empathetic, she listens, and her inputs are centered around the emotions or feelings that I might be experiencing. She is very validating.
