New to Grow
Hello! My name is Susan (she/her pronouns) and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists who has been in the profession for 20 years. I have served hundreds of children and their families over the years in clinics, family homes, schools, and online. I specialize in anxiety disorders, mood disorders, AD/HD, identity/gender exploration, military life challenges, developmental disabilities, and childhood grief. I believe that children and youth are highly resilient, and will a little extra specialized attention and some tools, can come to feel more optimistic, in control, and eager to thrive.
In our first session, I like to share introductions and learn what brings you to therapy. Once you feel that I have understood what you need, we can collaborate on some goals and how I might best support you with some therapeutic approaches. We will also review what you can expect in therapy with myself and GROW.
My greatest strengths as a therapist include: my casual presence backed by years of experience, a sincere respect for your strengths, and a strong desire for your well-being. I aim for children to have a comfortable and fun experience while learning real practical tools.
I work best with kids who are curious about the therapeutic experience and like to be there. I have tools and strategies that I have practiced over the years to support children of all ages who struggle with anxiety, depression, or attention/over-activity challenges. I have some special training and experience working with Autistic children and youth, gender identity/expression, and military life challenges. I especially like to share some of my mindfulness approaches with kids who are interested in learning them.

CPP is an evidence-based treatment for children from birth to 5 years old that helps children and families recover and heal after stressful and traumatic events. CPP focuses on improving the quality of the caregiver/child relationship.
It is never too early to learn and practice Mindfulness skills such as breathing techniques, being aware of body sensations, or observing and quieting the mind. I teach children fun and easy ways to empower themselves with self discovery and self regulation.
