Hello there! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and have been providing therapy to individuals for 10 years. I have worked in a variety of settings including residential rehabilitation centers, outpatient programs, and private practice therapy. I help with a variety of issues including identity formation, substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress of being a student, stress of being a mother, adhd.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we will meet, and I will ask you some questions to gain a quick snapshot of your life (don't worry if any of the questions are things you do not want to talk about or review you can say pass), then dive into the specific challenges you're facing, creating goals that you have for therapy. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Having worked with a variety of mental health issues with varying degrees of severity I can say as a provider that it comes down to the relationship and trust between the provider and client. My unique style of adaptability, versatility an abundance of curiosity for life and compassion helps clients feel at ease in the room. I am engaging in therapy and work collaboratively with you and as we get to know another I can help guide you in identifying things that may be getting in the way of you feeling better.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I enjoy working with young adults as they are learning more about their own identity, what lasting impression they want to leave on the world while balancing school, work and life. Maybe sometimes you cope in unhealthy ways, and then because of that you feel guilt or shame. I would like to support you with a trusted environment where you don't have to worry about being anything to anybody, just showing up authentically you. My goal at the end is to do what I can to help you feel more aligned with who you genuinely are. I enjoy helping people become more aware of the distorted thought patterns they engage in and help to rewrite the narrative in their mind. Lastly I find it helpful to examine unhealthy or healthy patterns in your life that perhaps have been there for a long time and how to create new patterns that will serve you best.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

A fundamental goal of ACT treatment includes the concept of increasing one's own psychological flexibility. This means that there is an increased capability to adapt to adverse experiences without compromising ones values. I have enjoyed leaning on concepts in ACT since I began working as a therapist as I believe values can provide a compass for where to go in treatment as well as help someone feel more aligned with who they are thus decreasing mood instability. Thought defusion is another core component of ACT that has been extremely helpful/empowering to my clients in the past. It is about learning to untangle who you actually are from what you may be thinking about, essentially increasing awareness around your thought process so that you are better able to reflect objectively and problem solve effectively before taking any action.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to help clients understand basics of the "mind traps" or unhelpful thinking styles we engage in. If we can understand more about how it sounds in your mind then we can replace by finding more helpful thought patterns to engage in.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT provides an understanding of four skills; mindfulness, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance. These skills are useful with a variety of issues and provide tangible practices to put into place in order to build a life worth living. I enjoy using concepts of DBT throughout all phases of therapy as well as help clients work towards putting the skills into practice. Dialectics also help clients increase psychological flexibility by giving more room for compassion and understanding for self and others.

Existential

I enjoy using existential treatment on individuals who crave to create meaning out of life. This can be helpful when working with individuals who suffer from depression as it provides an open space to explore and understand their life. Existential treatment works to help expand the mind with identity formation and speaks to discomfort one may experience in this life wherein the nature of the problem is that we are human, and to be human means to experience a spectrum of emotions.
