In my college career, I obtained an AA degree in Psychology, and Bachelor and Master Degrees in Social Work. As a licensed psychotherapist, I have obtained clinical experience serving children, adolescents, young adults, mid-life to older adults and families. I’ve worked in non-profit organizations, schools, county mental health and on crisis lines, in ambulatory care and therapy platforms, providing therapeutic support by phone, video and chat sessions, services uniquely offered by these mental health organizations. I am licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and a member of the National Association of Social Workers.
My therapeutic stance is to provide you an opportunity to be yourself without judgment, provide a listening ear to which you can comfortably express what you need to say, and therapeutic goals that support personal growth in whatever directions you see fit for your life, ultimately assisting you to achieve or overcome all that feels necessary for you.
My colleagues and clients have described me as warm, caring, empathic, observant, optimistic and realistic. I truly care about my clients and feel gratitude for the opportunity to be a beacon of light in the life of others.
Clients I work well with feel that they struggle with self-esteem, self-confidence and finding their way forward from stressful life situations and prior relationships. Clients may feel that they have committed themselves to the expectations, needs and wants of others but are left feeling empty, burned out, misunderstood, neglected and isolated in their loneliness and emotional pain, and now want to find their way again, their sense of identity, life purpose, enthusiasm and sense of joy. These individuals are aware of their self-worth and are seeking to heal, feel whole again, and present in life again.
Every client has unique-strengths, sometimes unrealized, that can be engaged as part of their journey to success and recovery. Empowering clients through discovering and engaging their immediate resources helps to support therapeutic goals while increasing self-esteem and confidence, coping with and recovering from traumatic life-experiences, and experiencing an increased sense of hope for the future.
Clients are often unaware of the connection between their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Negative or irrational thinking, difficult emotions and self-defeating behaviors all have the potential for getting in the way of one’s success and well-being. I support my clients in understanding how these intertwine and play a role in their personal life experiences, and in discovering healthy ways of responding to stressors to improve mood, overall functioning and the potential for more positive outcomes in one’s life.
Everyone has a unique story. Sometimes, a traumatic past may feel emotionally draining and may negatively impact ones sense of identity and hope for the future. Though it has an impact on one's life, the past does not have to be one's present or future. Every individual has the capacity to define and and recreate one's own story, and choose how the past will inform the future. Narrative therapy is an opportunity to explore one's journey and gain a new lens through which to view and live life, with a new sense of identity, feelings of empowerment and self-compassion.
When stressor and overwhelm takeover, the ability to understand and find solutions to a problem can be life-changing. Often clients are unaware that they have the ability to find solutions utilizing their own ideas and personal strengths. Solution-focused therapy, though much shorter in duration, gets straight to the point, empowering the individual to explore and develop a plan for addressing various life-stressors and promoting future success.
