(she/her)
I have over 18 years of experience providing psychotherapy to adults, couples, and adolescents. I started my career at John's Hopkins Hospital working as a clinician in the Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry. I’ve also worked on interdisciplinary clinical mental health teams in schools, treatment centers and in private practice. My areas of expertise include of trauma-present day and developmental, PTSD, mood disorders, LGBTQ, relationship issues, family functioning, stress and grief, although I've worked in other areas of mental health as well. I think the most important factor in choosing a therapist is finding someone who also has done their own mental health work. I am dedicated to working on my personal change and therapeutic growth so that I can be at my best when working with others on their mental health path.
The first thing clients can expect in their initial session is to be met with compassion and understanding. While there is essential information to be made known such as reasons for seeking therapy now and prior therapy experiences, I believe the first session is first and foremost about relationship building.
I have many strengths to offer the mental health process. I listen to understand, recognizing the importance of helping the client feel heard and understood. I also am skilled at helping others understand the complexities of mental health in a way that is simplistic and relatable. I know what it feels like to be on the other side of the chair as a client, and am sensitive to bringing this understanding to my work as a therapist. I am kind, compassionate, relatable, smart, and well-studied in the field of mental health. High functioning adults and adolescents with trauma, PTSD, life stress, relationship issues, work issues mood disorders, change of life, grief, and LGBTQ.
I use ACT as a treatment for many mental health issues to include anxiety, stress and depression. It is a mindful method that helps clients use their stated life values as a to guide their recovery and actions.
Attachment-based therapy is one of the primary methods I use when working with individuals with developmental (childhood) and relational trauma. It helps the individual to gain a better sense of self and personal security through examining how their stress, anxiety, depression keeps them from taking the actions necessary to step more fully in to their life and their life values.
I use IFS with clients who present with stress, trauma, perfectionism and relational issues. Through this method I help individuals understand the role of their inner dialogue/inner critics/inner protectors and how these sides of themself can sometimes hold them back from fully embracing their life and relationship with others.
