She holds the Certified Addiction Registered Nurse–Advanced Practice (CARN-AP) credential and brings a trauma-informed, person-centered approach to care.
She integrates Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques into her clinical work, helping patients build skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness. Her approach is grounded in the belief that addiction often reflects a maladaptive response to suffering—and that healing begins with empathy, respect, and individualized care.
First session
Clients can expect the first session to be based on a few prompting open ended questions to survey their intentions and motivations for change as well as prioritize goals of care.
Strengths
I believe in being patient-lead. You are the captain of your ship. I am the coach -- I give information and recommendations. But, you take the lead.
Ideal clients
Shaza is especially well-positioned to serve individuals who demonstrate a commitment to self-honesty and personal growth. She works best with patients who are open to exploring their inner experiences and willing to engage in the challenging—but transformative—work of change. Her approach supports those ready to confront patterns of thought and behavior with curiosity and courage, fostering an environment where meaningful, lasting healing can take place.
Treatment methods
Motivational Interviewing
When first meeting a patient, Shaza utilizes motivational interviewing techniques to establish rapport and begin building a strong therapeutic alliance. With a nonjudgmental and collaborative approach, she explores each individual’s personal motivations for change, helping to clarify their values, ambivalence, and readiness for growth. This process allows her to align treatment goals with what is most meaningful to the patient, fostering a sense of autonomy, engagement, and shared purpose from the very beginning.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
Once a strong therapeutic alliance is in place, Shaza incorporates principles of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help individuals explore cognitive distortions, develop insight, and build healthier emotional responses. She uses the trust built in the therapeutic relationship as a foundation for introducing DBT-informed strategies such as cognitive reframing, mindfulness, and self-soothing techniques. Through this approach, patients are guided to recognize unhelpful patterns of thought and behavior while learning practical, compassionate tools for emotional regulation and resilience.
