Dr Maureen Glynn

LMFT15 years of experience

Many people come to therapy feeling emotionally overwhelmed, chronically anxious, trapped in painful relationship patterns, or exhausted from struggling to survive. Often these struggles are not signs of weakness or “brokenness,” but adaptive responses to developmental childhood trauma, chronic stress, attachment wounds, emotional invalidation, or environments where safety, stability, and authentic self-expression were limited. I specialize in working with teens and adults affected by childhood trauma, relational trauma, chronic stress, nervous system dysregulation, and the emotional impact of ongoing medical conditions. My approach is integrative, trauma-informed, relational, and heart-centered. I work collaboratively with clients to understand how their emotional patterns, survival strategies, nervous system responses, beliefs, and relationship dynamics developed over time — and how those adaptations may continue to shape present-day experience. I had my own journey healing from wounds of childhood trauma to living a fulfilling, contented life. I understand and feel the pain of those who are disconnected from self, and who suffer deeply. I invite clients who desire to find relief from suffering to reach out.

First session

The first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another and determine whether we are a good fit for working together. I will want to learn about what brings you to therapy at this point in your life, what concerns you are experiencing, and what you hope may be different as a result of treatment. I may also ask questions about your personal history, important relationships, significant life experiences, and any previous therapy or treatment. I am interested in understanding the experiences, relationships, and adaptations that may have contributed to the difficulties you are experiencing today. The first session also provides an opportunity for you to ask questions, discuss any concerns, and get a sense of how I work. By the end of the session, we will typically discuss initial goals and whether it feels like a good fit to continue working together. Therapy is a process, and the focus of the first sessions is to build a safe container in the form of the therapist-client relationship, to enable healing.

Strengths

I have had my own journey healing from the wounds of childhood trauma to living a fulfilling, contented life. In addition, I completed a doctorate in CIinical Psychology in 2022 focusing on psychoneuroimmunology, learning about how trauma at an early age affects not only our psychology, but also our physiology. My dissertation was on adults with childhood trauma, mental health problems, and comorbid chronic diseases. I believe a key to therapy is acceptance and non-judgment in the therapeutic alliance, as a platform for real change.

Ideal clients

Adults with childhood trauma and chronic disease or other medical conditions.
