It's another day, and you're filled with worry, anxiety, and dread. Thoughts keep cycling in your mind, and you feel sad, hopeless, and helpless. I'm Deborah Bayles, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I can tell you that you don't have to continue feeling this way. You can get the tools and skills you need to live in a calm, joyful, fulfilling way by giving yourself the gift of therapy. Allow me to safely companion you and help you gain some effective, evidence-based techniques to release the traumas of the past and the worries of the future. When you fully learn to inhabit the present moment, you can take control and responsibility for your life with power and confidence. Therein lies true healing. With an extensive background in business, education, technology, and eldercare, as well as psychotherapy, chances are I know what you're facing in the "real world" and can help you. I invite you to start a new way of thinking and looking at your world. I'm here for you through private, HIPAA-compliant online teletherapy, now and in the foreseeable future. I serve California residents exclusively.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we will get to know each other a bit and explore what you would like to achieve in therapy. I'll try to demystify the therapeutic process and try to give you a sense of safety and confidentiality. I'll ask you to describe your background, including your family, school, and other factors that have helped shape you, and I'll share how I work, what methods I use, and what to expect going forward. We'll develop a treatment plan that is tailored just to you, and then we can decide together if we would like to proceed.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Clients appreciate my direct, challenging but empathetic, nonjudgmental approach. I expect that in each session we bring our authentic selves and be ready to work.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

Clients with Anxiety, Depression, Panic Attacks, Trauma, PTSD, Perfectionism, and Codependency/Relationship issues. Clients who wish to explore EMDR. Clients who are grieving the anticipated or actual loss of a loved one. I am best positioned to serve clients who are seriously dedicated to putting in the work, time, and discipline necessary to get better. Therapy should be a working partnership.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, is an evidence-based treatment method that is extremely effective for treating generalized anxiety, phobias, social anxiety, agoraphobia, chronic pain, and rumination. Every client is different, so I will probably blend the use of CBT with other modalities to tailor a treatment plan based on your unique needs.

EMDR

EMDR is a "spooky good" form of treatment that is very effective for reducing the symptoms of trauma, PTSD, CPTSD, and a variety of other issues. EMDR is an eight-phase protocol that utilizes your brain's natural adaptive information processing capabilities to tackle and resolve the intense feelings surrounding old traumas.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i)

When was the last time you had a good night's sleep? If you suffer from insomnia you know the physical and emotional toll it can take on your health. CBT-i focuses on the power of CBT to restructure your sleeping habits and relieve the symptoms that underlie your insomnia. Most people find relief in 8-12 sessions.

Grief Therapy

Grief can be experienced in many different ways, and there is no "right" or "wrong" way to grieve. Through my years working for a Hospice as a Grief Counselor, I found the work of William Worden and his Four Tasks of Grief to be an excellent guide to the difficult journey of griefwork. Although you will never forget the loss of your loved one, you will learn to integrate their memory into the rich fabric of your life.
