Jesse Coudray
I am a therapist dedicated to empowering clients to reclaim their path toward their most desired future. My work is fundamentally solution-focused, meaning we spend less time dissecting problems and more time defining your strengths, identifying immediate wins, and building actionable steps toward your goals. Your capacity for change is immense, and my role is to help you see it clearly. My approach is collaborative and strategically integrated. I draw heavily on Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help you resolve ambivalence and articulate your own, intrinsic reasons for change. This partnership focuses on eliciting "Change Talk" and moving from passive hope to decisive action. When building specific skills, I utilize CBT techniques, ensuring you leave each session with measurable, practical tools to manage your mood and navigate daily challenges effectively. For clients healing from deeper wounds, my expertise in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Grief Therapy ensures we address the past, but always through the lens of liberation. We process how trauma or loss has changed your worldview—identifying "stuck points"—not to dwell, but to remove cognitive barriers that block your future progress. I weave in Existential principles to anchor your goals in profound personal meaning. We ensure the future you are building is authentic and aligned with your deepest values, giving you the courage to take ownership of your choices. If you are ready to stop focusing on what is broken and start defining your best self, I offer a focused, empowering journey toward reclaiming your life.
First session
The first session is framed as an active partnership focused on establishing a sense of safety, clarifying immediate goals, and building hope.
Strengths
My strength is the integrated approach required to treat complex psychological pain. I excel at providing structure for clients navigating high-stakes transitions like PTSD, addiction, grief, and reentry. By expertly combining Solution-Focused goal setting, CPT for trauma resolution, and the empowering spirit of MI, you can move efficiently from enduring past pain to confidently building an authentic, purposeful path forward.
Ideal clients
The ideal client is an adult who is carrying the psychological pain of complex life experiences, yet possesses a fierce motivation for change. They are individuals who have navigated significant, life-altering challenges, including unresolved grief and loss, the lingering effects of PTSD, the cycle of addiction, thoughts of death, or the hurdles of past incarceration. They recognize that these past realities are actively preventing them from achieving a stable, authentic future. This client is often at a pivotal moment, tired of managing symptoms and ready to engage in therapy that offers structure and forward movement. They are done with aimless processing and are seeking a solution-focused partner to help them efficiently dismantle the emotional and cognitive barriers they face. I work particularly well with clients seeking to: Resolve Trauma: Using CPT to systematically process PTSD symptoms stemming from intense past experiences. Establish Stability: Employing CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to build practical coping skills, address ambivalence in recovery, and stabilize life after incarceration or active addiction. Redefine Identity: Addressing the existential crisis inherent in recovery or reentry, helping them move beyond the stigma of the past and confront feelings of isolation and meaninglessness. This client is ready to acknowledge their pain and their strengths in equal measure. They are prepared to collaborate and take courageous steps toward reclaiming their path — a life defined by their hard-won self-awareness, personal responsibility, and future goals, rather than by the circumstances of their past.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize CBT to help clients identify distorted thinking patterns and challenge core beliefs. We work collaboratively on behavioral experiments and cognitive restructuring to foster lasting emotional and behavioral change.
Cognitive Processing (CPT)
My CPT approach teaches clients to challenge and modify unhelpful thoughts about the trauma and its consequences. We utilize written accounts and Socratic dialogue to reprocess the event's meaning, leading to symptom reduction and a restored sense of self-efficacy.
Existential
I use existential therapy to guide clients in confronting the ultimate concerns of existence, such as freedom and meaninglessness. We explore current choices and personal responsibility to help them construct an authentic, value-driven life and resolve underlying anxieties.
Grief Therapy
I guide clients through the Tasks of Mourning, systematically exploring the reality of the loss, processing the pain, adjusting to the environment without the deceased, and finding an enduring connection while moving forward with life. The pace is always client-led.
Motivational Interviewing
I utilize MI to help clients explore and resolve ambivalence toward change. By embodying the spirit of collaboration, compassion, and acceptance, I employ techniques like Open questions, Affirmations, Reflective listening, and Summaries to elicit and strengthen 'Change Talk'.
