Hello! I'll get right to the point - these are the main issues I work with: 1. OCD, Anxiety, and PTSD/C-PTSD. i.e. rumination, overthinking, repetitive, unwanted, or intrusive thoughts, compulsions (both mental and behavioral), fantasy/maladaptive daydreaming, asking questions like "What if?" and hyperfocusing on the stuff that keeps you up at night. 2. CODEPENDENCY. i.e. inability to say no/lack of assertiveness, fear of upsetting others, taking on too much responsibility, chronic feelings of obligation, poor boundaries, toxic relationships. I often work with people who would describe themselves as disciplined, hard working, and responsible. These noble personality traits can have two pitfalls: 1) Being taken advantage of by others who constantly expect you to solve their problems; and 2) Being overly rigid, controlling, perfectionistic, and emotionally repressed to a point where it is hurting you more than anyone else. 3. PERSONALITY CONCERNS. i.e. lack of purpose/identity, failing coping skills, thinking, "No one understands me," wondering, "Is there something wrong with me?" or asking yourself, "Why is it okay when everyone else acts like this, but when I do it, it's wrong?" Do any of these describe you or your situation? If so, I'd love to meet you and talk about how we can work together to overcome your struggles. Feel free to browse through my profile and if you feel so inclined, make an appointment so we can work toward restoring balance to your world again.

My name is Alexandra Sweeney, but I go by Ally. I have been working in the field since 2018. I specialize in children/adolescents, Autism, and Eating Disorders. I like to take a relational approach with therapy: I believe that all relationships whether they are past or present are important in the therapy process. I believe it is important to understand how a person is in their familial, romantic, or platonic relationships and how this impacts the person as a whole. I use the counseling process to foster a healthy relationship and a way to create boundaries and help people be their true self in every relationship.

I began my career working in family crisis services, including child protection and foster care. I’ve also supported individuals with disabilities and provided career guidance through my work with the state. While these experiences have shaped my approach, individual and group counseling are truly where I feel most passionate and effective. I am a Christian and draw strength from my faith. For clients who would like to incorporate spirituality into our work, I am happy to do so. At the same time, I fully respect and support clients who prefer a non-spiritual approach—your comfort and goals guide the process.

I’m glad you’re here. Looking for support is a big first step. Therapy can be a place to slow down, to make sense of what you’re dealing with, and find new ways forward that feel more manageable. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Connecticut and New York. I received my Masters from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College and have been in the field for 12 years. I have extensive experience working with college-aged and emerging adults navigating identity, relationships, and life transitions. Additionally, I've worked with adults on the autism spectrum, family members and caregivers of people with developmental disabilities, and others in helping roles. More importantly, I’m interested in getting to know you as an individual and working together in a way that feels supportive, practical, and aligned with who you are.

Have you been considering therapy? What’s stopping you from engaging in therapy? One of my goals is to destigmatize and normalize therapy, particularly in marginalized communities and expand access to therapy. As a therapist, I hope to provide a safe, supportive, comfortable, judgment-free environment that allows one to feel comfortable enough to open up and share their story and experiences. My focus areas are individuals coping with life stressors, depression, anxiety, family relationships and other diagnoses and stressors that are impacting your daily functioning. It would be a pleasure to walk on this journey of healing and empowerment with you.

I aim to create a space where you feel comfortable being open and honest, while also helping you challenge patterns that no longer serve you. Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use.
