I am a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker since graduating Columbia University in 1983. Subsequently I completed 2 fellowships both in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and in Psychodynamic therapy at The Postgraduate Center and Rational Emotive Therapy in New York City. I have had extensive training in family and couples counseling and I am successful in creating change in long term patterns.
Assessment and evaluation are an ongoing process that unfold along the way; through collaboration, we will explore family history and precipitating events, and develop of plan with focus to the way you would like to proceed with either a more directive present and oriented approach, or a client centered supportive and insight oriented approach.
I am eclectic in approach and have been successful in treating anxiety disorders, panic and depression. I can work with adults, teens, individuals and couples utilizing a behavioral approach, as well as traditional insight oriented methods.
Clients can benefit from exploration and motivational interviewing that leads to insight, understanding and ultimately to solutions. Clients will actively initiate homework assignments utilizing Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy techniques. The ultimate goal of therapy is to enable the client to do the work himself/herself with the gentle support of their therapist.
CBT techniques are useful alongside insight oriented therapy to identify and change thought patterns that lead to poor self image, depressed mood and anxiety. Within supportive relationship cbt techniques work to help to improve find relief from pain and start feeling better fast.
