Hi. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). Perspective clients need to know I genuinely care about the people I work with, and have a passion for joining people on their journey to a new self. The fact that you are searching for a therapist shows you would like something to change. This is very brave. We often lose perspective about situations and how we deal with them. This can be a result of things we have buried from our past, or relationships that did not support us in the way we need. I will give you a safe and supportive place to look at your unwelcome patterns and find a way to make your journey more fulfilling. My counseling focus is on adolescents and adults. My philosophy is client-centered, Mindfulness based, trauma informed, and goal oriented. I have training and experience with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness. My areas of focus include trauma, attachment issues, difficulties with distress tolerance and emotional regulation, along with families dealing with Alzheimer's. Your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are what make you who you are. As we work together to understand these parts of you, we will find a way to alter those thoughts that no longer work for you and strengthen those that are helping you become who you wish to be.

I earned my degree from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and worked in several domains that have aided the work I have done over the course of 20 years and licensed with my LCPC. During this time, I learned that the most important aspect of getting to a place of healing is to cultivate a safe environment. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) as well as a Certified Alcohol and other Drug counselor. In my career I have partnered with clients with chronic mental health concerns such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder, who also many times had co-occurring disorders such as substance use, but my passion is to work with adults who are attempting to overcome trauma symptoms, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, daily life stressors, relationships, and those who are trying to identify and overcome the root causes of emotional pain and overall unhappiness. I have always had great empathy for others. I learned very early in my own life that I strongly wanted to find solutions for anything I identified as “the problem”. This desire is what lead me to the field of Psychology and counseling. Through the field of counseling, I continue my passion of problem solving by helping others identify “problems” and find solutions. My approach to therapy is one that is flexible, non-judgmental, and empathic with the understanding that therapy has to be unique to the individual . Possibilities and solutions are infinite and individualized. Understanding how we perceive the world around us as well as how our thoughts influence our lives is a key part of my approach to therapy. As I partner with clients, we work together to determine what works best for them and use those strategies to bring forth restoration of the mind, body, spirit, and overall emotional well-being.

Lorenz fosters a safe space with cultural humility, integrates evidence-based practices with psychological theory, and uses more than a decade of experience in behavioral health to empower clients as they explore pathways towards wellness. I have years of experience fostering behavioral change with children on the autism spectrum, teenagers, young adults, and older adults across a variety of settings including private practice, residential treatment centers, inpatient units, outpatient centers, community mental health units, and secure treatment facilities. Having worked with folx from a wide range of backgrounds and with the gamut of presenting concerns has fostered further humility, fueled my hope for change, and contributed to my clinical acumen. By understanding what you bring into and what you want out of treatment, I believe we can forge a pathway to wellness and the achievement of your goals.

My name is Daniel, and I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Illinois, where I have been providing mental health services for over 24 years. Regardless of your background, financial status, or the countless other aspects of yourself that make you unique, there is one universal fact that impacts us all: life is inherently unpredictable. We all face unexpected changes and events that range from extremely positive to brutally challenging, increasing our risk of feeling unprepared, isolated, and possibly overwhelmed, with no idea of what to do next. My training, skills, and years of experience enable me to help people deal with and move beyond the emotional fallout that often occurs during and after significant changes and events. These can commonly include anxiety, sadness, depression, grief, or negative self-image, and may result in the development of problematic coping strategies and issues related to self-confidence, motivation, communication, healthy relationships, or substance use. Everything we experience is based within the current context of our lives, including our age, gender, location, sexual identity, relationship status, financial position, job status, life stage transition, and physical health. It’s crucial to take all these aspects into careful consideration to make true and lasting progress. I work collaboratively with clients and am dedicated to creating an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. It takes tremendous courage to seek happiness and even more to take the necessary steps. I’m here to guide and support you in your efforts.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Illinois rather than a city like Chicago?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Illinois from Rockford to Springfield! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Illinois.

Will my therapist take EAP:Cigna?

Yes! If you use EAP:Cigna you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have EAP:Cigna you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
