Hi there! My name is Matt, and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor who offers teletherapy services in New Jersey. I've been working in this field for 18 years and have been in private practice since January 2023. Throughout my career, I've worked with individuals of all ages, from 12 to 83, with a focus on those between 18 and 25. My sessions are designed to be relaxed, casual, and comfortable. I limit the number of clients I see at any given time to ensure personalized care and attention. I believe in getting to know each client individually to understand their unique goals and needs. Scheduling your first appointment can be daunting, but we strive to make the process as easy and stress-free as possible. Thanks for considering my services, and I wish you all the best!
Meeting someone for the first time can be difficult and awkward for some people, especially when it involves having to talk about difficult topics with a stranger. For the first, and sometimes second, session we work on becoming more comfortable talking to one another and discuss in general the reasons for seeking treatment. I try to keep it at your pace and not pressure you. It's all about making you feel safe.
My greatest strengths are being completely non-judgemental, regardless of how shocking the revelation may seem, and treating the client with deep empathy and respect. Also, I've been told that I'm "easy going and laid back".
I specialize in helping people who are struggling with anxiety and/or depression, as well as those who are facing a short-term life crisis. Although sometimes, all someone needs is a neutral third party to listen. I've also had the privilege of helping many young adults navigate the stresses and anxieties that come with starting their independent lives.
This approach ensures that each client's needs are met in the most effective way possible. It combines the best ideas and techniques from several other methods, tailoring them to each client's individual situation.
This is a well-known, "gold standard" approach that has been demonstrated to be effective for many people facing many issues. It is one of the most commonly used "go-to" methods. This is based on the idea that there is a direct link between thoughts, expectations, and behavior that, with attention, can be changed.
A useful approach that many find helpful, mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) has been incorporated into many different disciplines recently. This can be particularly helpful for those with anxiety.
