I completed the Master's in Social Work program with a minor in Alcohol and Other Drugs. I am clinically licensed in New Mexico, Texas, Virginia, and Maryland. I have over 15 years of experience in individual, couple, and group therapy. Much of my past work is related to trauma, but current work is transitioning towards sex therapy to focus on the healing and somatic approaches that can have treatment benefits for those who have experienced trauma. Trauma work has focused on relationship based trauma, such as betrayal trauma and helping clients heal and establish healthy boundaries to reduce risk for repeated and destructive relationship patterns and increase behaviors that contribute to healthy relationship dynamics that increase communication techniques, trust, security, and pleasure in relationships. Couple’s counseling applies approaches that focus on communication, connection, and being supportive of each other during difficult times in the relationship. Individual therapy applies healing and increasing positive behaviors towards one’s self which contributes to reducing trauma symptoms, healing, setting healthy boundaries, improving self-view, reducing risk for burnout, social fatigue, and other stress related health conditions.
In our sessions, you can expect a warm greeting to help you feel safe to share at your comfort level. I do tend to hop right in so you can feel there is an intended purpose in therapy so you have increased hope that treatment will be effective and improve the quality of your life. I use a person-in-environment perspective as we exist in the context of our daily lives, relationships, families, communities, and society. Intent is to understand each person’s intersectionality’s to understand their unique experiences that impact their identity, choices, and actions.
With more than 15 years in therapy, I continue to be impressed by people and appreciate the want and need for people to explore who they are so they can have fulfilling, and enriching lives within themselves, their relationships, and life goals. I want you to feel heard and valued and also challenged to explore new options that help you align with your personal values in a targeted way with the evidenced-based practices that help you reach your goals as fast as reasonably possible.
I sincerely enjoy meeting different people from all walks of life. Meeting unique people is what makes this job a pleasure. This work has been a pleasure because I have come across many people who have good intentions by others, who want to be their best, have positive contributions in this lifetime, and who truly care about others. I enjoy working with those who have these intentions in therapy and in the daily lives. I appreciate working with clients at various levels of their readiness to reach their goals, even if one isn’t certain they are ready to make the change or have various motivations to make changes by meeting their treatment goals. Change is seen as a process that is valid at all levels of motivation and progress.
Eclectic
I prefer using an eclectic approach because people and life are complicated, and no one therapy can meet the treatment needs and goals for everyone. An eclectic approach allows therapy to be tailored to your unique situation and personality. An eclectic approach allows me to stay up-to-date with a variety of treatments and be open-minded to learn new treatment approaches.
