Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

People make the best choices for themselves when transparent options are available to them. If you have requested consult with me, you likely have already considered several results from your personalized search for a psychologist. I typically phone a person with a few questions, and then I will either book a visit for you or direct you to a practitioner who could be a better option. The first visit begins the assessment phase. The first visit involves two goals. First, to orient you to the ethics involved in our doctor-patient relationship. Second, to really understand your problem by listening to your perspective.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Perhaps at least 10 words should satisfy this box space.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Individuals who gravitate to me for treatment often have notable strength and are higher functioning persons who already had to battle in life to make it through. If this sounds like you, you have my respect already. Perhaps life has dealt you devastating circumstances that others might have thought insuperable, and now you’re feeling thoroughly burned out. But, you are still pushing through somehow. I appreciate such courage and persistence. It's a privilege to use my expertise to help such persons arrive at peace of mind and relational harmony that once felt unattainable. Perhaps you find yourself in adulthood after a scarring early beginning, and now you're ready to break generational cycles of pain for which you are all too aware of. But, it’s still a struggle despite your good efforts. It has been my privilege to help my patients transition from existing in a survival state to living in a thriving one.

My treatment methods

Psychodynamic

A form of therapy, within the psychoanalytic tradition, that identifies unconscious motives and conflicts that mold the personality, influence attitudes, and produce emotional disorder. Emphasis is on tracing behavior to its origins, rather than concentrating on overt signs and symptoms of disorder. It analyzes transference and places a premium on self-understanding and making meaning of what is unconscious. It focuses on processes of change and development while helping the patient overcome abnormal behavior or adjust to the problems of life.

Prolonged Exposure Therapy

Prolonged exposure is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy that teaches individuals to gradually approach trauma-related memories, feelings and situations. By facing what has been avoided, a patient presumably learns that the trauma-related memories and cues are not dangerous and do not need to be avoided.

Supportive

A form of therapy that aims to relieve emotional distress and symptoms without probing into the sources of conflicts. It emphasizes reassurance, reeducation, advice, persuasion, remotivation, and encouragement of desirable behavior. It is frequently applied to patients with relatively minor or limited problems, as well as to fragile or hospitalized patients, as a means of maintaining morale and preventing deterioration.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

A collaborative approach that invites patients to describe their hoped-for outcomes and to apply what they already have toward achieving it in the shortest possible time. Individuals leave with knowledge and tools for helping them build practical solutions from their strengths, previous successes, and other available resources.

Christian Counseling

Christian psychology involves a collaborative approach to therapy for people who consider themselves religious Christians and who prefer being treated by psychologists who hold similar values. It emphasizes knowledge, skills, and awareness of working with spiritual and religious issues, while treating the patient holistically according to a bio-psycho-social-spiritual perspective.
