Thank you for stopping by! A little about myself. I am licensed in both California and Oregon. I am available for virtual sessions for all clients and a physical office in Salem, Oregon for in-person sessions. My virtual and in-office hours are typically Monday through Thursday, 10am-6pm.

I am a mother, a Nana to 5, and dog mom to 2 Jack Russel's. (They haven't eaten the couch yet :) I grew up in foster care and was adopted in my teens.

I am a mother to three adult children, a Nana to 5 and dog mom to 2 Jack Russel's. I grew up in foster care and was adopted in my teens. That path led me through my own therapeutic journey as I struggled with depression and anxiety. As I found wellness, I launched into social work professionally to support youth and families, and eventually here, as a licensed therapist. I have been working with Individuals and families in various therapeutic settings for over 25 years, supporting those who struggle with depression, anxiety, trauma, attachment/bonding issues, life stage challenges, and relationship conflicts to name a few. I find myself continually in awe of the resilience of the human spirit. I am honored with the trust my clients offer me as they process thoughts and feelings around their challenges as we journey together to find answers that make sense and solutions that work.

First session

In our first session, I will review your intake forms you have completed prior to our meeting. We will then review HIPPA and privacy rights first, your mental health history, triggers and trauma events, medications, physical health, and self-care strategies. Then we will establish a few achievable short term and long term therapeutic goals that will support your desired long term life aspirations.

Strengths

Like others, my many life experiences have included many good, some bad, and a few ugly events that have equipped me with knowledge, wisdom, empathy and passion to support those on their own unique life journey.

Ideal clients

I enjoy working with clients from diverse backgrounds that would benefit from Strength-based, CBT, Narrative, and Solution-Focused modalities through caring, compassionate, and non-judgmental support to address such issues as historical trauma, relationship conflicts, attachment/bonding challenges, depression, anxiety, anger and stress management, grief and loss, low self-esteem, communication skills, and parenting challenges, as well as effective support for foster/adoption related challenges. Please know I do not work with PTSD or addiction recovery. Our time together will be in a safe space where your cultural values and right to self-determination will be honored with the goal of supporting you in overcoming the challenges that are a barrier to achieving your personal sense of peace and passion. We will work together in this therapeutic journey as you set goals, identify barriers, take responsibility for personal choices, and then apply practical tools and exercises to achieve your best self. I worked for several years as a Parent Partner, assisting both foster parents and biological parents struggling with their children's behavioral challenges that put their children at risk for physical harm, out of home placement, and/or contact with the Juvenile Justices system. With these personal and professional experiences, I can often bring effective support to the parenting and foster parenting community.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), simply stated, provides tools that bring insight and understanding to why we do what we do-the good, the bad, and sometimes the ugly. CBT has proven to be effective in addressing various problems including depression, anxiety disorders, relationship issues, typically improving resilience to distressful events in the present, as well as processing historical traumas.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution-Focused Brief Treatment is a short-term treatment modality to support clients in realistic and attainable goal setting and achievement with their specific needs and strengths.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is a therapeutic approach that empowers a client toward making positive changes to achieve life goals, examining historical barriers, as well as personal strengths.

Narrative

Narrative therapy is a modality that 'separates the person from the problem', resulting in improved insights, self-empowerment, motivation in setting/achieving realistic goals.

Strength-Based

A focus on developing and accessing personal strengths and abilities that will support the ever evolving self toward resilience, goal fulfillment and autonomy.

Finding a therapist in a huge sea of online therapists feels like it could be a long swim till u find your match. You kind of put the life vest on pick one and dive in. I can now say, i feel very grateful it was a short swim as Katherine was my first pick and she definitely puts the while “who needs therapy concept” to rest. Im so glad I found someone who made my situation feel valid and I felt much comfort in that. Wonderful so far. looking forward to this journey. Thank you.
