I work with clients in order to help them to find wellness and balance. People often face difficulties with life's challenges, whether it's a temporary struggle or something that has been a longstanding problem, I strive to empower my clients to find their own inner resources. We all have our unique sources of strength and resiliency to deal with difficulties. My goal is to help guide you to your own strength by listening, engaging genuinely, and providing practical tools that you can use in your everyday life. My specialties include working with individuals who struggle with: anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, addictions issues, couples/marital counseling, work/life balance, personal growth counseling, challenges with aging, trauma and PTSD, and anger management issues. I am trained in Cogntive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Counseling, and am a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC).
The first session would be a chance for us to get to know each other, and for me to listen to you first and foremost, about whatever difficulties brought you to counseling, and then for us, together, to begin to develop a plan best suited to your needs.
My biggest strength is not only actively listening to a client, but using insight oriented Socratic techiques to help a person look at things in a new way, and try to find a new angle and 'reframe' a challenge they have been struggling with for a while. Sometimes we get stuck in a pattern and need a new perspective to see things in a different light, I try to be that new perspective for a person, not to 'give you the answer', but to help you find new answers, and new perspectives for the challenges that face you in your life.
Any clients who are looking to enhance their wellness, are looking for insight, or would benefit from additional tools to help improve their self-esteem, relationships, work-life balance, or challenges with anxiety, depression, or substance use are welcome to make an appointment.
I find Cognitive Behavior Therapy to be a useful and effective tool to help people to find tools to find solutions to problems in their lives. The techniques of CBT intuitive and easy to grasp and immediately put to use.
Existential Counseling is helpful when people are struggling with the existential challenges of life. We are all faced with dilemmas of difficult choices, the limitations of time and energy, and how to navigate these challenges. While, as a therapist, I cannot solve these issues for another person, what existential helps with is the ability to illuminate the dilemmas and hopefully help a client come to their own decision or help them accept the choice they must make when things are challenging.
Many forms of psychology are focused on what is wrong, Positive Psychology focuses on how to maximize the things that are going right. It is literally the psychology of happiness. How to obtain it, and how to maximize it. There are certain things that help us obtain happiness, among them: flow states, healthy relationships with others, maintaining our physical health, and finding and getting involved in activities that we value.

Robert was kind, warm, open-minded, and very knowledgeable. He immediately put me at ease. I was so relieved after our first session and I am looking forward to working with him. I would recommend him to other couples or even for individual counseling.
