(she/her)
My name is Connie Whelan and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California. I have been practicing for over 16 years helping adults and seniors with a wide variety of challenges. I use strengths and solution-focused approach to help create a unique plan to help each person become their best self. My Approach: My counseling style is solution-focused, client-centered and strengths-based. I use CBT, Behavioral Activation, Motivational Interviewing and Strength-based approach to help clients that are seeking to make changes in their lives. My Focus: I help young adults, adults, and seniors with a wide variety of issues and concerns. Most clients I work with initially present with issues such as depression, anxiety, worry, sleep disturbances, family and/or relationship issues or financial worries. My Communication Style: My communication during therapy is interactive, supportive and collaborative. Through questioning, listening and challenging old ways of thinking and/or doing things, we will start seeking new ways of approaching life's challenges.
My Goals for You: My therapeutic goal is to identify areas of concern and work on developing healthy coping skills. Together we discuss ways to improve the area of concern through weekly goals and/or assignments. As new skills emerge, we re-evaluate and set new goals. My First Session with You: The first session is for the client to share why they ar seeking therapy. It is your time to share your story, why you chose to seek treatment now and what you would like to get from therapy.

My strengths is being a supportive listener while breaking down the stages to change into manageable goals. Goals are based on what the client wants to address. I work well with those who are feeling depressed and/or anxious, have had trauma that is affecting their daily lives, those dealing with ADHD, anger management issues, just to name a few. We work together to understand the issues the client is facing and together work on decreasing ineffective behaviors and developing healthier coping skills.
