Hey! My name is Melissa and I would consider myself a person-first therapist. I am adept in a few modalities including CBT, DBT, and ACT. The most important thing is getting to know you and your needs. I think of it as if we are pilots in a plane. You are the main pilot, I'm the copilot, and the plane is your life. The destination and decisions are up to you, and I am by your side with your best interests in mind.
The first session is all about feeling one another out and getting to know your goals/needs. It's all about starting the dialogue.
I am known to have an uncanny ability to make new connections feel like we've known each other forever. I believe that when you truly enjoy what you do, people can feel it. I am also uniquely well-versed in many challenges due to my diverse background. I've worked at almost every level of care, so I have a lot of first hand experience and knowldege dealing with a multitude of challenges effectively.
Someone who is looking to make deep and lasting change in their lives would be my ideal client. A therapy session lasts 1 hour; there are 23 other hours to be faced on your own. It is important to be willing to do the work.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I utilize ACT to present acceptance skills, clarify values, and ensure there is quality in our day-to-day life.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize CBT to identify unhelpful thinking patterns and to teach you to manage your thoughts.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I utilize DBT to teach you practical skills for things like managing emotions, relationships, and managing stressful events.
Trauma Informed Care
I am very well-versed and experienced in providing trauma-informed care and helping you process traumatic events you may have experienced.
