Welcome! I’m Brittany McKenzie, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in California. I earned my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Massachusetts in 2023 and have experience working across multiple levels of care, which has shaped a flexible and well-rounded clinical perspective. I take a humanistic, trauma-informed, and client-centered approach to therapy, with a strong emphasis on meeting clients where they are. My style is warm, compassionate, and validating, while also being honest, straightforward, and intentionally guiding. I believe therapy should feel like a safe, supportive space where you can show up as you are, while also feeling gently challenged and encouraged toward meaningful growth. I specialize in trauma recovery and am deeply committed to helping clients recognize their resilience, reclaim their sense of value, and heal from painful experiences. I also have extensive experience supporting LGBT+ individuals and communities. In addition, I enjoy working with individuals navigating personality disorders, sexual concerns, and other complex relational or emotional challenges. Whether you are processing trauma, navigating identity, exploring relationships, or seeking support in building a more fulfilling life, my goal is to walk alongside you in that process. I strive to create a space where you feel understood, emotionally safe, and empowered to make meaningful change at your own pace. Reaching out for therapy can feel like a vulnerable step, and I honor the courage it takes to begin. If you’re ready, I would be glad to support you in your healing journey.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first session will be an opportunity for us to get to know one another and determine whether we are a good therapeutic fit. We will also explore what brings you to therapy, discuss your goals, and begin identifying how I can best support you in working toward them.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strengths as a therapist include my ability to create a warm, grounded, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel genuinely seen and safe to explore difficult experiences. I bring a balance of compassion and directness, meeting clients with empathy while also gently guiding them toward insight and meaningful change. I am especially attuned to trauma work, with a strong focus on helping clients recognize their resilience and rebuild a sense of self-worth after painful experiences. I also value authenticity in the therapeutic relationship and strive to meet each client where they are while supporting them in moving toward their goals at a pace that feels manageable and empowering.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am most interested in working with clients who desire meaningful change in their lives and are seeking support in that process. I value working with individuals at any stage of their journey and providing a space where they feel understood, valued, and emotionally safe. My primary focus is working with trauma survivors, including those within the queer community, individuals experiencing personality disorders, and those navigating sexual concerns.

My treatment methods

Attachment-based

I enjoy utilizing attachment-based therapy to help clients identify, understand, and heal unresolved childhood wounds, while fostering healthier relational patterns, greater emotional security, and stronger self-awareness.

Compassion Focused

I enjoy utilizing compassion-focused therapy because it aligns with my values of meeting clients where they are, fostering emotional safety, and supporting growth through empathy, acceptance, and nonjudgment.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

Utilizing culturally sensitive therapy is an essential part of my practice, as we live in a diverse world shaped by many cultures, identities, and belief systems. Understanding and honoring a client’s cultural background is fundamental to providing effective, respectful, and individualized care.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

I enjoy utilizing Internal Family Systems because it has shown meaningful results in working with trauma and helping clients develop insight into the different parts of themselves. This approach supports healing by fostering self-compassion, internal balance, and a deeper understanding of protective and wounded parts.

Sex Therapy

I am passionate about sex therapy and approach this work from a no-shame, affirming perspective. I value creating a safe space where clients can explore sexuality with curiosity, build confidence, and develop a healthier, more empowered relationship with themselves and others.
