Helena Eckerberg, Ph.D
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 25 years experience. I have trained in many modalities including CBT and psychodynamic therapies, as well as couples' counseling including sexual issues.
I listen with my ears and my eyes and ask about discrepancies.
I am very active in therapy and rely on a collaborative approach where you are the expert on you, and we form hypotheses together on how to best help you resolve the problems you are dealing with.
First session
First session is a chance for you to meet and understand my style and how I work. It's helpful if you have formulated what you are wanting help with ahead of time but if not, we can work together to find a goal for therapy. The intake session is a chance for me to fully understand the nature and extent of the problem you are seeking help for.
Strengths
I am very active in session. I listen with my ears and my eyes and ask about discrepancies. I will ask a lot of questions to make sure I fully understand what can cause the issues you are seeking help for.
Ideal clients
I see high functioning clients with a spectrum of problems and disorders but you must be ready to work on yourself. Please note below what I consider rule outs for us working together. (That is lying in bed during session; doing dishes or other housework; picking up children or driving; vaping, smoking or drinking alcolholic beverages.). There is a reason I have added these rule outs,,,, Ideally you come as open to therapy as possible since this makes it easier for us to collaborate on helping you resolve your issues. And if you are I am happy to work with you.
Treatment methods
Psychodynamic
I practice an ecclectic approach which incorporates aspects of cognitive behavioral, experiential, somatic, and psychodynamic frameworks from an attachment based understanding.
