New to Grow
Hi! Thank you for visiting my page. My name is Michelle Lakefield and I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor(LPC) for the past 18 years. I have worked with many clients from the ages of 10-70 over the past 18 years. I am compassionate and nonjudgmental and help clients navigate life's challenges. My approach is collaborative, supportive and customized to each client's unique needs. My clients have provided feedback to me that they feel heard, understood and motivated to grow and make changes in their relationships and lives. I work with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, stress management, life transitions and relationship struggles. I also have experience supporting adolescents with ADHD and autism and helping their parents manage the challenges that come with raising a neurodiverse child. In addition, I work with adults who are challenged by ADHD, autism, anxiety and depression. My therapeutic style integrates evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT) and emotionally focused techniques, helping clients build insight, strengthen relationships and create lasting change.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In your first session with me, I help you feel comfortable, respected and heard. I create a nonjudgmental and supportive environment. I gather information such as presenting concerns, symptoms, and background information. I also find out what your goals and expectations are for therapy. I review over logistics such as scheduling and policy for cancellations. You may ask any questions that you need to in the first session that will help you feel the most comfortable and trust in me as your therapist.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
My clients feel that their relationship with themselves and their family members and/or significant others improve through my therapeutic approaches. They set and meet goals and learn new skills to improve themselves and their relationships. Through the evidence based approaches I use(CBT and EFT), clients get results. I provide resources for clients to use in between sessions so that they can practice skills and improve communication and self-esteem.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I work with clients on helping them understand how their thoughts, feelings and behaviors are connected. I work on reframing negative thinking into positive thinking through doing exercises, journaling etc.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
I work with clients on improving emotions and relationships in close relationships.
Couples Counseling
I help couples talk openly about issues, improve communication and under better understand each other's feelings and needs.
