I feel that clients shouldn't have to be in therapy forever! While co-creating this process with you, I strive to balance my active listening with imparting active, hands-on techniques to help you reclaim your narrative and overcome obstacles in your path. I feel it's about more water rather than less soda, so to speak, and take both a clinical and holistic approach to helping you enhance alignment and experience deeper fulfillment in your journey. Along with my LCSW, I am trained in EMDR, certified in Theta Healing, Reiki, Transformational Life Coaching, and Therapeutic Touch, and Master Practitioner certified in Neuro Linguistic Programming, Hypnotherapy, and Time Line Therapy. I feel I provide a safe space where shame and judgements are left at the door, and we will explore your wants, needs, and feelings with curiosity and compassion. I feel it's very much a co-created process, as you know more about you than I ever will. The work is also far more about our uncovering your truth than you adopting mine. With that said, I have a wide array of modalities and approaches I feel I have quite dialed in, and we can collaboratively determine which tools and approaches best suit your needs. My hope is that our work together will help you feel not only hear and validated, but also empowered and aware of how to eat the elephant on your own going forward. I see this work as us walking side by side, with you gradually taking the lead with me supportively in your corner. If you have something pressing you wish to discuss in session, that will always take precedence. My job is ultimately to actively listen and hold space. With that said, if that's all I was doing, you'd inevitably say, "Robby, you're a nice guy. But I don't know how much we're actually getting done." To that end, I feel it's far more important to determine HOW you think rather than WHAT you think. So it tends to be important for us to explore unconscious limiting beliefs and emotions along with the conscious. You can also expect to learn clear and concise action steps (ranging from mindfulness exercises to creative writing prompts to holistic practices like meditation and breathwork) to help you regulate your emotions and reclaim your narrative. I feel that many people are hesitant to engage in therapy because they perceive a stigma tied to seeking support. After all, the notion of "mentally ill" does have a negative connotation. The way I see it, though the process is not about fixing a broken thing, but rather enhancing one's alignment and fulfillment (and okay, yes, also confronting obstacles to those pieces). But if the focus is on "Where am I trying to get to and how will I know that I got there?" where our work is to simply close the gap between here and there, it can help us leave shame and judgements at the door, and perhaps even enable you to look forward to increased awareness and empowerment in your journey forward.

When counseling, I look at the whole person not just the current situation. I take time to get to know you and understand your situation and/or concerns. I treat all my clients with the utmost respect and compassion. I use motivational skills to help my patients see their strengths and help them create achievable goals. I believe in breaking the big goal into smaller goals that lead to meeting that larger goal. I believe this creates positive reinforcement for my clients and improves their emotional health, during what could be a difficult time in their life. I look forward to helping you improve your mental health, one step at a time. I have 6 years of experience working with depression, anxiety, bipolar, addictions and co-occurring.

Hello, I'm Dora Smith. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, in the state of Virginia and South Carolina. I am a former teacher who worked with the regular and special education environment. I received my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health from the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky. I work with individuals, couples, and adolescents to improve relationship concerns, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, post-partum, grief, life transitions, ADHD, PTSD, and addictions. I believe everyone can overcome their struggles with support and genuine effort. Life transitions can be awkward, uncomfortable, or distressing. At any age, you might find yourself unprepared for the big feelings that come with your new normal. My passion is in helping you navigate the twists and turns of life while maintaining your core identity. There are so many changes in life. Whether you’re a sandwich generation adult, caring for your kids and your parents at the same time, a new mother, or a young adult exploring life beyond childhood, I will guide you through the daily challenges of this current phase. As a former teacher, I’ve seen how the way we lay the groundwork for coping with new situations manifests into our adulthood. Each person is unique. I desire to help you improve YOUR life YOUR way. When we work together, you can expect for us to examine the way your thoughts, actions, and emotions influence one another to create an outcome. Then, we’ll tear each piece apart and make tweaks where necessary to reach your goals. My approach is warm and person-centered. When I notice progress within our work, I’m sure to shout it out for celebration!

Hello, I am Dr. Young. Life is full of colors. Light or dark, each has its unique quality. The secret to becoming successful in playing the game of life is to change from the inside out. We live to move forward, and it requires us to be more and do more. Resilience is an innate human capacity. In my view, everyone is capable of self-healing given the proper guidance and provided with supportive conditions. With a cultivated healthy sense of self, solutions appear with the clarity to think about what you desire in life, not what you cannot or don't have. In tough water, even good swimmers might struggle. If you have dreams and hopes, I can help you to pick up new skills going through the waves of life. Let's work together!

I am a psychotherapist who works with a diverse population of people. My goal is to collaborate with individuals to assist them in achieving their therapy goal(S). My treatment modalities are cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, and Ericksonian hypnotherapy approaches. Although I used these modalities, I do not use a one size fits all approach. I am a think-out-of-the-box clinician that will often challenge clients to try approaches that may be out of their comfort zone. Some examples of my experience include working with individual clients on developing skills in coping with mental health conditions/diagnosis, life stress, finding balance, and improving self-esteem. Although I use these approaches, my clients tell me it feels like we are having a conversation as opposed to feeling like they are in a therapy session. I have a specialization in working with Veterans, LGBTQI, men, and people of color populations. However, I work with all people who are seeking mental health services. I am licensed in DC (LICSW), VA (LCSW), MD (LCSW-C), and PA (LCSW). I have BS in Human Ecology, BA in Humanities from The Ohio State University, MSW from San Jose State University and Post Masters fellowship in mental health from Stanford University.

Life can be diffcult. Learning skills and techniques to help manage stressors of life can help. We all carry emotional backpacks that hold the weight of all of our hurts, stressors and other emotional upheavals. If we don’t take thetime to sort though the backpack on a regular basis the pack can become heavy and weigh us down. Mastering Self Recovery can provide you the tool kit needed to sort through the back pack and manage all of what life throws at you. Utilizing  techniques from DBT, CBT, Solution Focused and Internal Family Systems I will work with you on finding what will work for you to become your own Master of Recovery. Hi, I am a licensed psychotherapist! I specialize in Men’s issues, with several years of experience providing mental health services, primarily to Men. I believe everyone has the potential for change when provided optimal psychoeducation, a space to be vulnerable, and individualized therapies that are driven by genuine warmth and support. Men historically do not seek mental health services because of stigma, fear of not being understood, and limited numbers of male therapists who "get" them.
