I like to start by creating a calm, grounded space where you can take a breath and settle in. I’ll introduce myself as someone who values clarity, collaboration, and respect. My approach is client‑centered, trauma‑informed, and grounded in evidence‑based practices. I use psychoeducation to help you understand what’s happening internally—emotionally, mentally, and physiologically—so you can make sense of your experiences rather than feeling overwhelmed by them. For EAP clients, I also integrate brief, solution‑focused strategies that address workplace stress, burnout, conflict, and life transitions. Therapy with me is a partnership where you have a voice, a choice, and a clear understanding of the tools we’re using. I hope that each session leaves you feeling grounded, validated, and equipped with something meaningful to carry forward.
In my counseling practice, I embrace an eclectic approach, drawing flexibly from a range of evidence-based therapies to best serve each unique individual. No two people are alike, so I integrate elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy, emotionally focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and solution-focused therapy—tailoring the process to align with my clients’ specific needs, strengths, and goals.
My style is gently directive: I offer clear guidance and structure while inviting clients to explore and uncover the profound wisdom, resilience, and worth—the true “gold”—that resides within their own hearts. Often, this inner treasure lies buried beneath the wounds and pain carried from childhood. Together, we engage in the courageous, transformative work of healing those early hurts, fostering a deeper sense of wholeness so clients can live and relate from a full, healthy, and integrated heart.

Hi, I’m Akemi. Welcome!
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who loves helping people over 30 navigate the messy middle of life- those seasons of transition, anxiety, and self-doubt that can leave you feeling stuck or unsure of your next steps. My passion is helping you sort through those feelings, rebuild confidence, and move forward with clarity and hope.
For clients who want to bring faith into the process, I also provide Christian counseling, blending biblical truth with practical, evidence-based therapy. Whether your faith is the foundation of your life or just one piece of your journey, we’ll incorporate it in a way that feels authentic to you.
I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a brain nerd. I enjoy teaching clients what’s happening in their mind and body, why it can feel so hard to break old habits, how subconscious thoughts drive behavior, and practical ways to retrain the nervous system. (Geeky? Yes. Helpful? Absolutely.)
My style is warm, encouraging, and goal-focused. I’ll meet you right where you are with compassion, honesty, and this is the "judgement free zone", like Planet Fitness!
Outside of the therapy room, I’ve authored two books, 15 Minute Journal Prompts for the Postpartum Mom and Mindful Mandalas for Moms and I’m currently working on my third book.
While I don’t specialize in treating bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia, eating disorders, or substance use disorders, I’m always happy to refer clients to trusted colleagues who do.
At the heart of my work is a simple belief: therapy should feel like a safe, uplifting space where you can be yourself, work through what’s weighing on you, and take meaningful steps toward the life you want. It would be an honor to walk alongside you on that journey.
Akemi McGoogan, MSW, LCSW

Have you been feeling little or no enjoyment in the things that used to bring you joy? Do you feel stuck in negative thought patterns or easily irritated? Maybe you are longing for close relationships with others, but once conflict arises or someone begins to be vulnerable, you become scared, which in turn leads you to pull away from those you love.
My aim is to join with you in your therapeutic journey and merely facilitate the process of healing, as I believe each person has the potential and strength within them to overcome whatever adversity they have experienced. I look forward to knowing and understanding each person’s heart, as there is so much beauty, victory, and joy waiting to be unlocked within you all!
Healing begins when you feel seen, safe, and free to show up exactly as you are. My work is rooted in creating that kind of space, one where your story is honored, your emotions are welcome, and your growth unfolds without judgment. I blend mindfulness, somatic awareness, and acceptance-based practices with an intuitive, heart-centered approach that helps you reconnect to your own strength, spirit, and wisdom.
I hold every session with empathy and compassion, but also with realness. I believe in truth-telling that heals, the kind that may not always be easy to hear but always comes from love and respect for who you are becoming. Together, we explore not only why patterns exist but how to shift them in the body and in daily life. Our work invites peace back into your nervous system and power back into your choices.
I walk beside those who are ready to stop surviving and begin living in alignment with their wholeness. You do not need to be fixed. You need to be met, witnessed, and reminded of the power that has always been yours. In this space, healing is sacred, personal, and deeply human.

Mindfulness, Carl Jung's Shadow Work as well as Negative Core Beliefs can lead to changes that offer a completely new way of living and thriving. I also have experience with the LGBT+ community. A therapist in my experience adds a level of effectiveness having done therapy ourselves and I have put a lot of time and effort on the other side of the therapeutic relationship. It has allowed me a strong level of empathy and understanding of what clients go through when in therapy. Substance Abuse is an area I also have experience with.

I currently counsel teens, adults, and older adults with life transitions, career dysphoria, relationship difficulties, and anxiety. I offer compassion, empathy, and life experience. I meet my clients where they are and do not formulate preconceived ideas or strategies to help my clients, rather, I seek to understand their view point, life experiences, and cultural influences into their therapy goals.
We all need support in dealing with life's challenges, but sometimes just asking for help can feel as overwhelming as the problems for which we are seeking support. I provide a holistic approach to therapy by incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with other therapeutic modalities, including Brainspotting (which is a tool to access neurobiological trauma experiences that are stored deep within the subcortical brain). Building and practicing coping skills is a vital part of therapy with me. Whether you are looking to learn new ways of dealing with behavioral, emotional, or relationship patterns, I offer my clients a compassionate, supportive, yet challenging environment in which to achieve their full potential. I am committed to providing a safe therapeutic environment for you to learn to use healthy coping strategies to manage the challenges of daily life.
