Licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and accepts 39 insurances. Specializes in Anxiety, Life Transitions, Self Esteem and 10 more.
Hi there! I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) based in Pennsylvania, and I have worked in the mental health field since 2005. I earned my Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I have worked with a wide range of clients from adolescents and adults in both individual and group settings. I specialize in working with individuals who struggle with PTSD, anxiety, depression, self-esteem and communication difficulties.
In our first session we will have what is called an initial assessment. During this assessment we will discuss the history of the concerns that bring you to therapy, information about how these concerns affect your life including your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. At the end of our initial meeting, we will discuss goals for therapy and create a treatment plan. The treatment plan will outline the anticipated course of treatment.
I use tools and techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their identity and self-esteem to the degree that they can embrace their own personal power. I am dedicated to using evidence-based practices and my approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, and solution focused therapy. I tailor the dialog and treatment plan to meet a client's unique and specific needs.
I love working with individuals who are motivated to make healthy changes related to their overall well-being and mental health. I find that my clients are eager to improve, but don’t yet have the tools or strategies to make their goals a reality. They often feel stuck, overwhelmed or struggle with anxiety.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
As a licensed therapist I utilize CBT to help clients change problematic thinking patterns. Collaboratively, I work with clients to identify distortions in thinking that are creating problems and re-frame these thoughts. Additional strategies I use include using problem-solving skills to cope with difficult situations, role playing to prepare for potentially problematic interactions, and techniques to develop a greater sense of confidence.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, person-centered form of guiding to elicit and strengthen motivation for change. As such, I use MI to support clients in identifying their strengths, efforts, and past successes to help to build hope and confidence in their ability to change. I believe that clients are the experts in their own lives and I tailor the dialog to meet a client's unique and specific needs.
Humanistic
As a strong mental health advocate, I address the societal and cultural causes and solutions to issues faced in the counseling process. I work to build a welcoming, safe space to empower individual clients in creating positive change. I believe that by focusing on a client's strengths, and accepting and validating a client's experience, emotional healing can occur.

She is so easy to talk to. When sharing things, she asks questions that no counselor has ever asked me before. At the end she always asks how the session went so we can chat through what worked or what I liked. I would highly recommend her!

As someone foreigner who is struggling culturally, I felt safe and understood by Katharine. She is very warm, down to earth and direct with you that makes you feel valid. This was my second attend trying therapy after two years and she made me feel so comfortable that I keep looking forward to talk to her!
