J. Paul Gatdula
It is a pleasure to meet you. My name is J. Paul, and I am a board-certified psychiatric NP specializing in ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders. I provide personalized psychiatric evaluations and medication management, as well as work and school accommodations when clinically appropriate. Evening and weekend appointments are available to make care more accessible for working professionals, students, and busy parents. Since entering the mental health field in 2018, I have worked across inpatient and outpatient settings. My approach is thorough, compassionate, and collaborative. I take time to understand your symptoms, history, and goals so we can develop a treatment plan that fits your needs and daily life.
First session
Our first session will focus on what brought you to care, how your symptoms affect your life, and what you hope to improve. Because ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep difficulties, bipolar disorder, and other mood symptoms can overlap, I may ask detailed questions to develop a clear and accurate understanding of your concerns. We will review your treatment history, previous medication experiences, medical history, and current challenges. If medication is appropriate, we will discuss your options, including potential benefits, risks, alternatives, and expectations. By the end of the session, you should have a clearer understanding of our initial priorities and recommended next steps.
Strengths
I combine careful listening with clinical structure, direct communication, and honest feedback. I want to understand the person behind the symptoms—not simply check boxes or focus only on a diagnosis. You can expect thoughtful conversations about symptoms, medications, habits, relationships, boundaries, and treatment goals. I will give you space to process while also helping you recognize patterns that may be interfering with your progress. My goal is to provide care that is supportive, practical, and focused on meaningful change.
Ideal clients
I have a particular interest in helping adolescents and adults with ADHD or possible ADHD. You may be struggling with focus, procrastination, organization, time management, forgetfulness, emotional regulation, or following through—even when you know what needs to be done. These challenges may be affecting your confidence, relationships, education, career, or daily responsibilities. In addition to ADHD, I work closely with individuals experiencing bipolar disorder and other mood concerns, as well as anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, stress, and sleep difficulties. Because these conditions can share or produce similar symptoms, I take time to distinguish between them and understand the complete clinical picture. Together, we will work toward greater clarity, stability, focus, and confidence.
Treatment methods
Supportive
My practice focuses primarily on psychiatric evaluation and medication management. When clinically appropriate, I integrate supportive psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy interventions into our sessions. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where patients can process emotions and discuss challenges affecting daily life. Together, we may identify recurring or unhelpful patterns, reinforce strengths, strengthen coping skills, and develop practical strategies for managing symptoms, stress, relationships, work or school demands, and difficult transitions. I listen carefully and offer compassionate, honest feedback to help patients feel supported and make meaningful progress toward their goals.
