My name is Redd and I am a licensed clinical social worker in California. I specialize in working with older adults, individuals dealing with grief and life transitions, people with chronic physical health issues, and those struggling with loss. I will work collaboratively with you to better understand your journey and assist with healing, finding hope and increasing your ability to cope with life’s difficult challenges.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During the initial session, I will gather information to better understand how to help you. I will ask questions about what lead you to therapy and what you are hoping to gain from therapy. We will work together to develop goals based on your needs and preferences.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have experience working with a variety of populations in mental health and social work roles. I specialize in medical social work, collaborating with older adults, chronically, ill and terminally ill patients and their families. I strive to create a treatment space that encourages people to be confident experts in their own needs and experinces. I strive to validate, normalize and offer education to assist individuals on their journey towards healing.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients navigate loss by fostering acceptance of the pain rather than trying to avoid or deny it. I will help individuals identify their core values and find meaningful ways to live in alignment with those values, despite their grief. We will use mindfulness techniques to increase psychological flexibility and enable individuals to experience their emotions fully while finding purpose and fulfillment. ACT supports people in transforming their relationship with their grief, leading to a more meaningful and enriched life.

Grief Therapy

Grief therapy interventions often include techniques to help individuals process their emotions, such as narrative exercises where clients recount their memories and feelings about the loss. Therapists may use mindfulness practices to help clients stay present and manage overwhelming emotions. Cognitive restructuring might be employed to challenge and reframe unhelpful thoughts related to the grief. Additionally, therapists might incorporate support groups or guided imagery to help clients find solace and connection with others who have experienced similar losses.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In using cognitive behavioral therapy interventions, we will focus on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns related to loss. Techniques include cognitive restructuring to alter distorted beliefs about the loss or oneself. We will also explore ways to encourage engagement in meaningful activities which can improve mood and reduce isolation (behavioral activation). Lastly, we will work on developing skills to manage symptoms of anxiety and depression that often accompany grief.

Strength-Based

I use strengths-based interventionsto focus on identifying and leveraging existing skills, resources, and positive attributes to address challenges. I assist clients in recognizing their personal strengths and past successes, encouraging individuals to use these assets to overcome current difficulties. Strength based interventions foster resilience and empowerment by building on what a person already has, rather than focusing on problems or deficits.

Supportive

I use supportive interventions provide emotional encouragement and validation to clients, helping them feel understood and less isolated. Using tools such as active listening, empathy, and reassurance I strive to create a safe space where clients can express feelings and concerns openly.
