First session
Hello again, you are most welcome to my portal and I sincerely hope that together we will walk this journey, build a healthy mindset and create positive and lasting memories. In our first session, we will be dealing with introductions, engagement and rapport building. This will involve history-taking by the methods of interviewing and asking questions, as well as the gathering and clarification of data and personal information. This is also a time and space to freely and comfortably talk, vent, and express any thoughts, emotions or feelings you might have that is causing or has caused emotional pain or discomfort over time. You are encouraged to ask questions to help you better understand, and to stay actively involved in your treatment and healing process. This creates a pathway to developing a working and trusting relationship which in turn allows you the opportunity to accomplish your goals.
Strengths
I have worked as a Board Certified Family Mental Health/Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for 18 years, but I have been a psychiatric registered nurse for almost 30 years. I have worked with individuals and families across the lifespan from pediatric to geriatric, and I have a passion to see adolescents and young adults heal, grow and become their very best selves. I work to create a greater awareness of mental health treatment options, while incorporating spiritual and physical health for the total wellbeing experience. I combine the psychopharmacological model with the psychotherapeutic method to create a comprehensive approach. I deal with a wide range of mental health disorders, including but not limited to ADHD, anxiety, bipolar, depression, OCD, PTSD, psychosis, and other diverse mood and thought disorders. I work with you based on your comfort level regarding the use of medications in your treatment. I also work with individuals who would like to tackle their issues solely through therapy, and other holistic approaches.
Ideal clients
I serve adults of all ages and assist them in navigating life’s difficulties, while working through their mental health challenges. I journey with them to a place of overall wellbeing. I am passionate about Teens and Young adults facing identity crisis, peer pressure, transitional difficulties or any mental health challenges. I help them understand themselves, maximize their potential, and become functional adults living their best lives. I also work with seniors and the elderly to better understand and manage their mental health, while optimizing their overall health and wellbeing. I walk alongside them as they create and enjoy healthy and lasting memories.
Treatment methods
Motivational Interviewing
I have been using motivational interviewing to help individuals and families understand who they are, the strengths they have, and elicit positive behavioral changes in their lives. This technique helps one gain insight into their mental state, explore ambivalence, identify obstacles to change and develop tools to become better at reaching and achieving their life goals.
Faith-based therapy
I utilize faith based therapy to help individuals and families come to terms with the spiritual aspects of themselves in order to help fill deep voids and heal trauma. This is turn enhances the development of tools , techniques and practices that foster the repair of broken foundations which create a pathway for psychological and mental healing. This leads to the positive connection of spirit, soul and body.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a form of talk therapy to help my patients manage and deal with problems they are faced with, by challenging and changing the way they think and behave. I help you to gain insight into the reoccurring patterns of your dominant thoughts whilst opening up your world of possibilities to explore and embrace healthier methods of recreating thought patterns to produce more favorable outcomes.
