(she/her)
Hello, my name is Julia Richardson. I am a Marriage Family Therapist, licensed for 25 years in California. I offer my services to adults, couples and parents and children over the age of 13. I grew up in California and went to the University of San Francisco for my master's in counseling/psychology. I help people who are on a path of discovery about themselves.
At our first meeting, my focus is to have you experience a secure and safe attachment with me as you share your desired goals for therapy. Together, we will build a plan that will include specific interventions to help you experience life with less rigidity/ chaos and more flexibility. I will teach you about the wonderful capacity of your mind and how it can facilitate emotional stability and well being.
I offer my passion, training and experience in working with neurodivergent adolescents and adults. I love to provide parent support to parents and parenting skills to help the developing mind. I also offer a relational lens of Emotionally Focused therapy working with couples who are trying to find their way back to each other after a disconnect.
I have worked over the years with many age groups. I have a special place in my heart for anyone seeking to better understand their relationship "within" and between themselves and the world. I use a mind sight lens of Interpersonal Neurobiology to address symptoms of anxiety, depression, compulsive thinking, attention challenges, parenting and other life challenges that can cause to one to feel either suck or overwhelmed. With couples, I offer a safe adult attachment lens to help you both hold the emotional space for each other.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Becoming aware of your patterns of attention/focus is the first step to know you can shift your awareness to be in a more flexible, adaptable, responsive state for all of what life brings. I will teach you how your mind, brain and body work together through the integration of mental activities (cognitive thoughts, feelings), body awareness and your relationship to others.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Biologically we are hard wired to feel safe, seen and purposeful through our connections with the ones we love. Emotionally Focused Therapy provides a map to find your path to a relationship of security and feeling "felt". I will help you experience the bridge between your surface behaviors your softer emotions, leading to your secure harbor within yourself and with those you love. I participate with ongoing training and study in the application of Emotionally Focused Therapy.
