I have been working in the Mental Health field since 2016 when I graduated with my Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have had opportunities to work with underserved populations of all ages in Substance Abuse Treatment, before transitioning to work with youth and families in the community. I have worked with youth and families for over 5 years helping youth, parents and families in crisis, as well as helping parents learn to navigate the world of developmental diagnoses.
The first session typically consists of gathering information and defining goals for therapy services. This is often the space where the client is able to ask questions and what to expect throughout services.
I find that my strengths include the ability to create a safe space and strong therapeutic relationship so clients can talk and work through struggles. I often challenge clients to help facilitate the work that can be done in between sessions, and help clients identify appropriate goals to work towards. Having worked with families in the past, I am able to see clients across the lifespan in individual, family and couples therapy.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a client centered approach that allows the client to think outside the box, identify changes, and implement these changes. I may challenge the client to help facilitate the work that can be done in between sessions.
Working with the family system to help promote and facilitate healthy relationships and resolve issues.
Helping individuals process loss and grief, and helping those with terminal illness cope with end of life.
Creating space for an individual to work through issues while utilizing a strengths based approach.
