Quinn Peralta
Hi. I'm Quinn and I am passionate about working with individuals and their families who are part of the LGBTQ+ community, especially people interested in exploring their gender or who are trans, nonbinary, or gender expansive. I also love working with individuals and their families dealing with chronic illness and/or disabilities and medical stress/medical trauma or anxiety. I understand the invalidation that is so common in interacting with the medical and mental health systems and strive to make sure you know that it's ok to feel your feelings and also to desire a change. I am available when you're ready to address your feelings in an open and non-judgmental space.
First session
In our first session we will begin our work together collaborating as a team and review what is bringing you to therapy now and some of the important things to know about your story. We will also develop a goal or identify a specific problem that we will work towards in therapy moving forward.
Strengths
I do well with encouraging individuals to make their own decisions about their lives and supporting my clients in whatever ways I am able to during our sessions. This can include making sure people feel validated for their feelings and less alone in their problems.
Ideal clients
I can best support clients who have motivation to solve the problems in their lives and/or to explore more about themselves using self-reflection activities, worksheets, and skill-building based on different types of therapy and skills.
Treatment methods
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use DBT skills and tools to inform my practice with clients and will sometimes use worksheets from DBT books in addition to other things to show clients tools that could be helpful to them.
Attachment-based
I use attachment-based treatment to give a framework to the work we are doing together and to understand some of the barriers that my clients face in being vulnerable or sharing parts of themselves.
Gender-affirming therapy
I use several pieces of gender-affirming therapy including creating space for people to process their thoughts and feelings related to their gender, affirming a person's experience and knowledge of their gender, linking people to other resources such as social supports, and using empathy and reflection to communicate with clients about their gender.
Psychoeducation
I use psychoeducation in my work to help clients learn about the issues that they are facing and how different people respond to those issues as well as providing information about coping skills and strategies. Knowledge about a problem can be tremendously helpful in facing that problem.
